Sony M4 E2303 on Android 5.0 unable to use browsers

I've recently converted to a Droid from an iPhone. So far, all is great. However!
I cannot use a browser (Chrome especially, though it happens to Firefox also) without it hanging and then crashing. Nothing changes.. it always crashes. I've tried uninstalling updates, installing the beta version of Chrome.. nothing helps.
I've noticed that it will almost definitely crash as soon as the keyboard comes up to type something in. Though, it also crashes when the keyboard doesn't pop up. Usually it works for about 5 seconds before dying.
The handset is a UK M4 Aqua (E2303) on Android 5.0. It's a week old. Not rooted, not unlocked, nothing non-standard.
