Why is phone data count increasing even when not in use?

Data usage is rising daily even without internet use.

Every time the device synchs, checks your email, looks for updates it uses data. Most social media like Facebook, Skype, whatsap etc uses data. Only way to kill that is to turn off synch, stop auto updates and don't use those things.
Turning data saver on is helpful too.
