Why is pop up appears when screen is on, especially incoming messages from WhatsApp?

Previous OS version- Marshmallow allows user to have a choice to enable/disable "previews in pop-up". The pop up is way too annoying as it comes when the screen is on and there is no privacy!!!

Hi... am having the same prob. This might help. It helps mine tho. No pop ups... but still receiving notification sounds..Go to setting...notification...advance notification. Thts where you can choose which apps to stop them from popping up. Hope it works

In the security settings for your lock screen, there are three options for what appears in the popup notifications:
- show everything
- hide sensitive data
- no popup

From inside the individual app, you may be able to fine-tune what the notifications show.
