Why is the Google play service eating up my data?

Google play service ate my data!

What the (explative) Google. New note 4 just used 1.3Gig in 24 hours. 753 foreground, 628 background. I try to keep all auto-sync off so not sure what this is from. This is more data than I usually use in a month.

The annoying thing is unhelpful circular contact FAQs that don't allow me to send an email to anyonereal.

Any advice on how to sort this anyone? Data is expensive in New Zealand. Google Play = 1 star.

I can't think of anything offhand besides putting the Active Applications widget on your main screen and keep checking/ending the Google Play app

Is it actually Google Play? If so, open google play, go to 'Settings', tap 'Auto-update apps', and then select 'No Auto Update' or 'Update over Wi-Fi only'.

Mine too! It's the Google play services eating it up and I have no idea why... It's ridiculous!!

Note 4. Stock on Verizon. Same issue just started popping up. Any ideas?

One could also try Restricting Data Usage in Settings > Data usage > Google Play services > Restrict Background data.

I've had it intermittently over time, I think the Goog is updating Play Services in the background.

I have an LG G3 but I have the same problem. Google Play Services used 20 GB one month and I didn't catch it. I was on an unlimited plan but I recently have switched to a restricted plan. From what I have read, this has been a problem for years but no one has any idea why it does this. "Restrict background data" works but then it basically makes every google app useless when not connected to WiFi. FIX IT GOOGLE!!!
