Why is the screen brightness increasing in 3rd party camera apps

I have a Nexus 5X and whenever I use a 3rd party camera app the screen goes to full brightness. This happens with Open Camera and Camera MX and also happens on both 6.0.1 and DP5. Why is this happening?

Maybe the photo app puts the screen to full brightness so you can focus correctly? I don't know but I'd hate to try and take pictures, especially in low light, with a dim screen.

Look in the app's settings... There should be a setting to set the brightness on max when the camera is in use

Low light with a dim screen wouldn't be too bad, but bright light with a dim screen would be terrible.
