Why is the time jumping forward five hours?

The time on my Google Pixel 2 randomly jumps forward five hours and then back to the correct time. It causes the screen to go to night mode in the middle of the afternoon, and text messages are out of chronological order. This began after I updated to Pie which was probably a mistake.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you connecting via VPN, or a wi-fi network other than your home network? Either of those might be based in a different time zone, which could then cause the device's system time to change.

It's when I'm using the cell system within fifteen miles of my home.

By the way I meant to mention turning off the automatic time doesn't affect it. I don't understand the problem. On previous phones I've owned, including flip phones, if the cell signal was completely lost the time would remain correct.

If it persists with Safe Mode, contact Google. (Although reflashing the ROM [you can get it from Google | Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices] might fix it up.)

(If it stops in Safe Mode, it's an app you've installed that's doing it.)
