why does the update on my samsung s4 phone suck?

Updated this morning and my phone has slowed right down, does strange things, jitters when it used to be smooth.
Can i fix this? Can you unupdate? Anyone else having these problems?

It can help sometimes to boot into Recovery and wipe the system cache partition after a system update. This won't erase any personal data. Reset: Samsung Galaxy S 4 | T-Mobile Support

When I checked my Galaxy S4 this morning it said there was an update available. I told it to go ahead. When it rebooted I got a screen with the following message;
Android system recovery <3e>
KOT 49H.I545VRUFNC5

Reboot system noew
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe detail/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache

I selected reboot system now, and the phone restarted saying the update had not installed successfully, and no changes were made.
Should I try and reapply the update?
