Why is the Xoom so much faster with a custom ROM?

I have two Xooms. One is completely stock and running the stock OTA ICS 4.0.4 ROM. The other is rooted and running the Team EOS nightly build. Running Quadrant Standard on both, the stock Xoom gets a score of 1963. The rooted Xoom set to stock CPU speed gets a score of 2618. When I set the CPU speed to 1504, the score jumps to 3813. I'm just wondering why the modified ROM is so much snappier than the stock build.

well with the uping the cpu clock its like adding a turbo charger to your car. i unrooted my xoom today and flashed the new ICS. to my in my opnion its way faster and smoother. when i was rooted i was clocked at 1504 or something like that.

Having two Xooms running ICS 4.0.4 side by side, one rooted and one stock, it is obvious that the rooted Xoom runs smoother and faster, even when running the same CPU speeds. I just wonder why Motorola can't optimize their builds to run like the custom ROMs.

Plus the rooted Xoom has the face unlock and doesn't have all the bloatware.
