Why is Thunderbolt so heavy compares to Samsung Facinate

I have a thunderbolt my wife has a Facinate and I was just wondering they are almost the same phone but Thunderbolt is a lot heavier

Cause its not made of cheap materials. I have an Epic, and while its lighter, its definitely "plastic-y" I've dropped both phones unintentionally, and both have survived, but the Thunderbolt just feels better to me (not to mention, I'll never touch another Samsung Android Phone).

Pretty much this. Samsung usually builds out of a lot of plastics that can feel "cheap" whereas the Thunderbolt has a lot heavier components - still some plastic, but you've got the kickstand, the large speaker grill, and aluminum body parts, which results in a phone the same size feeling heavier.

The Fascinate does not have a real speaker. The Thunderbolt speaker is many times better, and bigger.
The Fascinate is not as 'solidly' built IMHO. The Fascinate that I had (and HATED) actually slipped out of my hand twice because it was so light. I prefer a little weight.
I can see where someone with smaller hands might prefer the Fascinate

The fact that it has a 4G LTE Radio alone makes it heavier not to mention build quality as others have.

LTE radio and antenna. More metal than plastic. Kickstand and speaker grates are the easiest to point to. The Thunderbolt can do voice and 3G data at the same time.... the only phone on VZW that can. The larger screen means more glass.

If you are going to list a reason for why the Thunderbolt WEIGHS more than the Fascinate, you left out the actual WEIGHT part in the bolded part above. I would say its irrelevant, but I know for certain otherwise.

You could just say the Thunderbolt has LTE, eHRPD-CDMA, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The eHRPD-CDMA radio weighs more than a standard CDMA radio.

Let's also not forget the Thunderbolt also has the Adreno 205 GPU... Fascinate has no standalone GPU.

But actually, what it REALLY is, is the larger storage ROM and RAM. All of those bits and bytes weight a lot.
