Why isn't my ad blocking app working on my Rooted Android Tablet Nexus 7 2013 with Cyanogenmod 11?

Adblocking not working Rooted android tablet Nexus 7 2013 with Cyanogenmod 11

Hi, I've been trying to figure this one out for a while any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a rooted Nexus 7 with Cyanogenmod 11. I am trying to block ads with it but it isn't working right. Here are the things that I have tried.

Adblock Plus - Does Not Block ads at all
Adaway - Only Blocks Some Ads, Generally does not work
MOaAB List - This does work for some apps, it used to work for all of them but it doesn't block any ads in chrome or firefox at all.
Adfree - doesn't not work at all.

I was wondering what the problem is, I have tried resetting my hosts file, deleting it, reinstalling those apps, and nothing seems to work. I have full root privileges and I am running CM11 if it makes a difference.

I think there's an android version of NoScript for Firefox.

I also have this issue with my OnePlus One. Did you manage to sort this?
