Why my Samsung J7 not restarting by holding the power button

Hi,

Yesterday my Samsung J7 hanged and restarted itself. So I thought of a soft reset. But when I hold the power button for over 20 seconds, the phone is simply not restarting. One week earlier I had an update from Samsung of 250 mb.. So my query is, whether they have stopped that force restarting method ?? And how do I soft reset the phone ??
