Why Need Dex Pad?

I didn't see this elsewhere in discussion. I see lot of retailers are selling free charger duo and dex pad. I understand that N9 already has built-in dex.

Why are these retailers selling Dex Pads along with N9? Getting rid of units through promo gimmick?

because to fully utilize DeX as a computer the DeX dock has a built I'm fan for those intensive programs. I dunno never used one but that's what I have heard on other forums

The N8 can still make use of the Dex Station I suppose.

I haven't seen them being bundled with the N9 however.

I read without the Dex station or pad, the Note 9 can only open 5 apps or something like and with it docked to one of those station, it can open 20?

Also, the Dex Pad allows your Note 9 to charge while in Dex and it has a fan to keep it cooler.

Once I figure out my Dex setup and everything, I think I would get a Dex Pad at home and a HDMI adapter when I'm traveling.

This is a helpful discussion. I bought the USB-C to female HDMI and plan to get the male as well. Hoping I can use it with the SPen for powerpoint type slideshows if there's an app that supports it.

Wasn't convinced on getting the dock but this may change my mind.

I know the note 9 has a big battery. However there is no way to charge the device while using the cable only. Dex pad will do both. And allow a wired keyboard and mouse. That's my take.

I suppose if you use one of those HDMI adapters that are used for the Nintendo Switch, you may be able to power it and project. Of course it'll be slightly larger but it'll still be smaller than the Dex Pad to carry around and cheaper.

It's just like a HDMI adapter except there's an extra slot for a USB-C port which in theory, should be able to power the phone in Dex mode but haven't tested. Maybe someone who has can chime in.

I've been using my S9+'s DeX pad with my Note 9. It's useful because you can charge the phone while using DeX. Also, if you have a USB mouse or keyboard, there's no way to connect it without the DeX pad or at least some other sort of accessory.

The acceptable price of the DeX pad has definitely gone down with built-in DeX, but it's still useful.

Benefits so far:
1. Charging + Projection + Cooling
2. Allows USB Keyboard/Mouse to Connect
3. Portability - Travelworthy (Probably can watch netflix on hotel tvs lol)
4. Multi-App Usage (Not sure if Built-one has 5 app limitations - Can anyone verify this?)


Worth it!
