Why no signature?

Out of curiosity, why will Samsung not allow us to use a signature in our stock text app?
Is it a bad thing?
Everyone else does.

All of this maybe true, but it'd be nice to send a text to someone with a #bob at the end so you don't get a text back from someone that you haven't texted in forever that says
'who is this?'
I'm talking about just a name, not a paragraph from the Constitution.
Just can't see why that's such an issue with them. Must be something I'm missing.
All of the addon apps have it. I just don't want to add an app just for that.

Why not just create a text shortcut? With that, just typing a short letter combination will insert your signature phrase anytime you want.

In the stock keyboard settings there is an option to create text shortcuts. You can use any character combination you desire to invoke whatever text you set for when that character combination is typed. For example, you set the letter combination of “kl” as your text shortcut, when you type that and hit the space bar, it automatically inserts “this is bob”. This works whether in messaging, email or wherever you use the stock keyboard.

Are you constantly texting people who don't know who you are? A txt signature goes to everyone, on every txt you send them, every time, and is generally unnecessary and usually gets annoying. On the occasion someone doesn't know who you are, tell them. You asked - that's my opinion, now do what you like. I don't know what keyboard you use, but I can add "shortcuts" to my keyboard - like if I type "jh" it inserts my whole name. That's one idea if you are looking to save time for all the people you txt who don't know who you are.

As others said... My guess is due to it being annoying. You sound like you use it in a great way but let's think about the majority... Most likely not.

With that said some apps like Textra allow them.

Debate? I don't see one. He said why take it away? People answered that most users send a book as a signature... So Samsung most likely decided to remove it for that.

How do you see it as bad that people answered his question? It's not our fault the answer isn't the best to him. We are simply saying the most likely reason for something like this being taken out.

Seems to me it's all conjecture, possibly based on preferences by the individuals responding.
I don't care if someone has a signature, I don't care if they don't. It doesn't take any more or less of my time either way.

People use signatures all the time in email, even at work. Clearly it isn't needed because at work you see the sender's name before you even open the email, so the point about sending to people who already know you seems moot.

To me it was all argumentative, but I guess it wasn't to others.

How would we know 110 percent for sure unless we worked for Samsung?

Come on let's be real for a minute .. forums are for people to discuss and things like this people use commonly known things to come up with theories. Unless some article has talked to Samsung or someone here has an insider we won't really know the "official" response.

Also signatures in emails are fine. Are they limited to 160 charcters per email like SMS? No. So makes sense .

He asked if it was a bad thing, and why. I gave my view. You can state yours as well. Anyone in this thread is welcome to offer their opinion. Not sure why you are having such an issue with the discussion. As for email - email and SMS (SHORT Message Service) are generally used for different things, and emails today are often used as a communication of record. I'll not waste a bunch of time here explaining all the differences between email and SMS and how they are used. You have your view and it is different than mine. That is perfectly fine with me. I don't have a problem with the differing viewpoints in this thread or any thread. I don't see anything wrong with the discussion.

I think if you took a poll most people would prefer not to see sigs in the txt's they receive. I personally do not know a single person who uses them - I literally never receive txt's with sigs (in years). Doesn't mean you can't, and no one can stop you if you want to. So do what ever you like.

^ This is how it has been for me.

Either way -- for the OP's sake... I showed how Textra still has them. I get it isn't stock but if they are important I would suggest just snagging a 3rd party text app and getting what you want. Asking Samsung to find the "official" answer will most likely give you nothing. You would just get customer service reps who will give you exactly the same thing we are giving you -- theories.
