Why partition SD card?

Maybe I just am lousy at using the search feature, but I've been trying to find what that benefits of partitioning your SD card are. I see people posting that they do it but have not been able to find why. I am just curious, can anyone point me to a thread describing it or just give me a quick description of why it is done?

if you partition using xionia custom recovery and use advanced shell to send several commands you can use data2ext with link2sd to send all your installed apps to your SD card saving a ton of memory.

*note* I am rooted and running Reborn Rom 2.1.

See my thread re getting app2sd and link2sd for more info. I am mobile so its tough to hyperlink it.

I'll note that I have most of my apps installed to my sd card without having it partitioned. Still can't move some apps, but that's okay, saved me a bunch of space anyway. I'm interested in some other benefits, as well, of partitioning.

I would say unless you like to have a ton of apps installed, the basic "apps2sd" app from the market should suffice. Whereas I have a ton of apps, always have, always will, so I rooted my phone and partitioned my sd and installed data2ext and link2sd where all apps go to the ext partition on my sd card and my phone thinks it is "on the phone"
