No this isn't the typical"why root" question...well maybe it is. :) . I have the samsung fascinate and rooted to get the froyo2.2 and happy as hell I did but my wife has the X and i'm looking to see what advantages are there in rooting. she really doesn't want me to mess with her phone but if there is enough of an excuse I would!

Well just like with your phone she could have a update before it out. Gingerbread for the X is floating around and it wont be long till someone drops it out. Just like froyo on the x we had it leaked a few months before moto dropped it. But if she is not into themes and roms and all that stuff I don't see a need to mess with it. Keep checking back to see when ginger drops early for the x and then do it since that would give you a good reason to check it out.

Wireless Tether for Root Users & Adfree Android are two reasons that I rooted. I don't really care about ROMS just yet.

wireless tether was the greatest thing that happened to me on a recent road trip I took. but I will tell u this. after u use the right rom, u will find yourself questioning how u ever dealt without it. at least I think so.

Wireless Tether was my #1 reason for root. #2 reason was to rid my phone of all that pointless bloatware. I'm a bit of a neatfreak so all the bundled/unwanted apps had to go.

this and overclocking were the reasons i did it. and adfree. messed with roms a bit just so i could learn how flash and return to root status. i might flash apex again now with the update. but root is so easy on the X theres almost no reason not to. z4 it.

My wife and I both have X's and there's really no way I'd bother rooting her X. She's perfectly content with it stock and no way do I want to hear the *****ing if I root it and things are funky.

that was my thinking too! I can deal with my own screw ups but don't want to have deal with her if it gets wonky just to get tethering (which she wouldn't use anyway).

Thanks to all for the input. Will keep lurking here in case something breaks with Gingerbread.

You're welcome! One thing I've found with my wife & technology after 16 years is - if it's working and she's figured it out - don't mess with it.

You wouldn't have believed the whining I heard for about a month after dumping ATT & iPhones for VZW and X's. She will still sometimes say she misses her iPhone because it was "easier" to use. I may end up getting her one eventually to replace her X now that VZW has it.

Well I know for a fact my wife wouldn't like turning her phone on every morning and being at clockwork recovery and having to press the camera button to get it to reboot normally. Sure not a big deal for me - but I just know she'd be yapping "What did you do to my phone?!?!?". :)

Mine's done that since the day I rooted wtih Z4 and installed Apex.

But you can root & leave it stock so you don't have to deal with recovery. I rooted my wife's D2 with z4root to install Wireless Tether & Adfree. She doesn't see any difference other than having ability to tether her laptop, no ads on Angry Birds, & a lot less in the browser. She loves it!
