Why so secret???

Just want to know why the Bionic has to be so secret. I'm not talking about the release date but the phone itself. It seems as if every other manufacturer is releasing specs to build up the buzz around the phone. I think the Bionic has lost a lot of potential sales not just because of the launch delays but more because a lot of people just don't know whether it will be worth the wait. And now it seems that some are looking beyond it to the GS2, I-Phone 5, or other newer phones on other carriers. Is this because its going to be such a ground breaker or is it because there is nothing new here?
They have gone back to the drawing board at least twice I think. What is on that drawing board.
Just wondering.
I don't know how many times I have almost just pulled the gun on the TB or Charge in pure frustration because I feel that I would be missing out on the 4G experience or pending tiered data plans for no good reason.
And like all the other LTE phones it is inevitable that there will be some major bugs with the Bionic also at launch since not even the normal bloggers have been able to give it a test run.

I think maybe they werent sure what was going to go into it and dont want it to leak in case they have to go back to the drawing board again. If the phone was finished(which some say it is) usually the leaks dont occur until they start training or shipping that employees leak the info its not usually leaks from moto or high up vzw ppl its those low down who leak the info since they dont have as much to lose. I also think that they may be putting everything into this to make it a true superphone to try and compete with the sgs2 and the iphone 5 so that may be why everyone is so tight lipped. i think they saw when it was announced at CES how their phone wasnt anything special when they thought it would be and decided they needed to change it to make it better than the other phones. Who knows though they may just not be able to get it right. It is moto remember lol. Not to mention some testers have it but they cant leak any info on it so i wouldnt say nobody is giving it a test run.

What about the unboxing videos we see sometimes months before the official release date?
I believe I have even seen some on AC.

I'm not yet up to speed on all the rumors and what's actually known vs pure speculation ... but I wonder if some of you guys are maybe engaging in some wishful thinking here. Bare metal hypervisor, ray guns, and flux capacitors. I don't thnk Moto is sitting on some killer device; I think they're trying to save their reputation as much as possible. Secrecy may be more about their not knowing yet if they're going to be able to pull it off this time. Sorry if I'm being too negative here, but what details do you really know about the actual equipment being used? Has anyone figured out what precisely the problems were on the first Bionic? Do we know if it's been fixed? Maybe the 2nd "Bionic" had the same problems or worse? All this talk about a third "Bionic" is not a good sign; it's a bad sign IMHO.

I work in manufacturing and a delayed launch usually means one or both of two things:
1. Severe technical issues.
2. Or missed opportunity in the market (got trumped by competitor and back to the drawing board).

It seems like a few years back Motorola fell of the cell phone radar for a while and it was the Razr that had to save them. HTC, Samsung, and LG were able to take the LTE specs and run with them. What's up with Motorola. Maybe they should have scrapped the dual core processor all together and load the phone up with other industry upgrades. Maybe they are hoping for another miracle like the Razr.
Meanwhile the newer the technology the higher probability of technical issues.
I guess if nothing else there will be a flux of TBs, Charges, and Revs out there for the taking because of early adopters unloading their current phones.
Although I have been anxiously awaiting the release I am getting more and more concerned that I may need to give it a couple of weeks after launch to see what issues there may be.
And if nothing else I should be able to grab one of the other LTE phones off craiglist or ebay for a bargain and save my upgrade on future phone that is really groundbreaking:)

What's that word used for people who continuously visit a thread just to bad mouth something? Now what about when people have absolutely no clue what the phone looks like or how it performs in real life? And still we get the same response over and over, "the phone will be a flop", "outdated before released".... I would love to know how they are predicting this off something they know nothing about. Or maybe they could just stop trolling a thread about a almost completely unkown phone that they aren't interested in? Negative comments .are fine when yoj have a legitimate reason for known specs, but the random "that phone will be garbage" posts are rediculous. Anyway that is all I care to say about the subject.

You know why so secret? You REALLY want to know? I'll show you guys something shiny, just give me a few more days to get Moto's approval.

;)

I have nothing on the phone itself so don't lynch me like Oxn.

I also get tired of people saying it is a flop with out any specs or anything. I hope that there is a leak soon if not I will just wait patiently. If you can't wait then buy the Charge or the Thunderbolt. Making the threats about going to another phone will not make them move any faster... I have been waiting since November and I can't see a few more months hurting me.

I don't know if you're talking to me or not but I'm definitely interested in this phone and have said so. Are you contesting that the first Bionic was a failed phone? As for the 2nd or 3rd Bionic, I don't think anyone knows yet.

Thanks, Robrecht

We in a way know all the potential specs. If you look at all the android phones on the market and all those announced in the near future, it has to be some combination of the technology available today or it would not even be close to launch. Its just a matter of which of these Motorola chose to combine and implement. Its the execution of the technology which is key.

Don't get why this becomes so personal. This is a forum and conversation is what it is for. I'm hoping for the best with the Bionic (i've been waiting also) but I'm also an Engineer who has been in manufacturing over 25 years so I know about what it takes and the challenges associated with a product launch.

I have been following this phone since it was announced as the Etna in November. I seen some specs and some were confirmed and some were not. I have been in the know and have been searching daily about this and the GS2. I have done the same before i got the DX which my wife now owns. I don't mind the conversation but if you say something is a flop or a complete failure. Back it up with facts. Don't just say it is a failure because of delays or because they are tight lipped about it and there is no leaks.

I'm assuming you have decided to be an early adopter unless you change directions and go the SG2. If I get to nervous to jump in the water from the start, I will be anxiously waiting for your unbiased review of the good and bad.

In the meantime one thing I hope they dropped was the desire to create this Docking system like the Atrix. I see Netbooks for sale cheap all the time. I think they have passed their time. Most people I know who went to Netbooks decided that they really needed a full powered laptop.

In my opinion the Laptop Dock is a gimmick. IMO it is a big waste of time . Why would i buy it and can't do as much as what I can with a laptop? Car Dock and desk top for my nightstand or to plug into my TV to watch videos from my phone is cool. Right now I am focused on getting The Bionic, but if and only if the GS2 is 4G LTE I would lean toward the GS2.

What was the radio on the original Bionic? Any word on the radio in the 2nd (or 3rd?) Bionic?

Thanks, Robrecht

I also hope they will incorporate the dual radio to allow voice and data on 3G like the Thunderbolt.
FM Radio would be nice.
At least a 1.3MP FCC.
Minimum of 1800mah battery.
Future Voice and talk over 4G?
Clear loud volume through earpiece and speakerphone (never was loud enough on my DX).

In the first Bionic yes it was a fail from the start. It was below standard IMO and was not up to par when you had the TB with 768 MB of Ram, Atrix with 1GB DDR2 of Ram, The Bionic with 512 MB d DDR2 of Ram that is below standard.
