Hopefully if Sprint gets it they will bump the specs up to 32gb of storage like they did with the galaxy nexus. 32gb is perfect size for me since I have an adapter to plug in a 32 gb usb drive that has my movies on it

You fail to understand the purpose of Nexus devices.

You and I butt heads on many subjects but I'm not going to argue with you on this one. I really don't get the purpose anymore. The nexus one supposedly existed to push hardware specs, and I could see that that as most android phones before it had 500mhz cpus and 256mb of ram. The nexus one really set the new standard for an android phone. Since then though they've released well ok phones with no groundbreaking specs, and storage has sucked and the cameras have sucked. Marketing and availability has always been an issue. Typically at launch you might be able to subsidize it on one carrier.

And inspite of the criticism and demands of potential buyers, Google does what they want with it. So please enlighten me because I really an struggling to understand the purpose anymore

Sums it up perfectly!

If you aren't listening to your customers on your "pure"Google device and not improving on faults there, why should they continue to buy your devices when you aren't catering to them? That's taking the wrong page out of Apple's book!

They should have all came with sd card slots

I believe there is a post on here why they do not want to go with SD cards. I also believe not everyone in the world is screaming for one. I personally rarely use them even when they are available and idc to have one. I like the internal storage and hate seeing that format SD card. They used to be incredibly slow and take forever to load my photos. While that might be a nul factor right now with the faster and better phones I still prefer a cheaper phone over one with an SD card. I have no problem them leaving it out.

That said....I'd prefer greater than 16GB of storage.

The Nexus phones are dev phones first and foremost. These have never been mainstream consumer devices and it seems like this launch may follow that thinking.

That's kinda how I'm feeling. If they wanna give the "to keep costs down" excuse for lack of quality storage then let me decide how much I need myself.

I totally understand how sd cards complicate things and how much easier it is to just have one master partition with everything on it. But 8 gigs yields only a meager 5 and some change after reserving so much for the system and formatting. It's really an oxymoron to have that much power and no storage. Imagine building the ultimate gaming computer but only putting in a 50gb hard drive. That's essentially what they are doing.

I do think they should offer bigger options for those who use their phone in different ways. But a normal person that doesn't download games and doesn't use their phone to hold music/movies should easily be able to get away with 8GB. I actually think instead of offering 8/16/32 that they should just offer 8 and 32 options for those who need more and those who need less.

We'll see soon enough.

That's true however a person who doesn't need that much storage also doesn't need a quad core and 2 gigs of ram

And here I was thinking that the Nexus devices showed off software and Google services, not hardware.

But see that's the thing, this phone seems to go back to hardware being relevant. The specs are overkill, if it was a car, it would be a bugati veyron hardware wise. I'm fine with lesser specs myself, until they move on to android 5 I still tend to think a dual core and a gig of ram is all you need.

I'd much rather have modest specs, with more storage rather than this beast that's going to cost probably a $100 more than the old nexus with no improvement over storage.

Maybe....But the specs might be there because of price. LG likely can pay less per processor since they order more and its the same as their Optimus G line so it probably took quite a bit less tinkering and research in order to get this thing up and running since the 2 devices are so similar.

Perhaps I guess.

Oh well always an initial disappointment for me, and I'll be dying to get one later. Happens every year... Well except for the nexus s, it was an unappealing piece of crap from day one and stayed that way. Thick gigantic glob of plastic, with hardware that was nearly a year old by the time it was announced.

I'll be upgrading from a nexus s 4g and I couldn't disagree more. It's a great phone and still zips along quite nicely.

The hardware has ALWAYS been relevant. It has been on every nexus since the one.

You're just upset that it'll cost more. That doesn't make your criticism valid.

Yeah? What's it to ya? You still never answered my question. What is the point of the nexus program?

I have been building pcs since 1996, I read Engadget, Gizmodo, lifehacker and android Central every day, I am extremely fluent in technology, and I've been using cell phones since 2002, and I've owned a smartphone before the iphone... I also have a degree in computer science. Technology is very much my life but I don't claim to know anything more than anybody else. I'm sick of you following me around the forum, quoting my posts and leaving snide little known it all remarks. You wanna debate you wanna discuss then fine but if you're just quoting my posts to insult me then don't bother.

I've been on xda for 2 years, and met plenty of people but none has ever gotten under my skin like you.

Well there will be multiple nexus phones made by all of the device OEMs. I really like what lg has done though. The hardware is gorgeous. I like Samsung and HTC but they are always in the limelight. I would like to see Sony lg or moto get the chance to make a nexus.

This is the first Nexus phone (not counting that the Nexus 7) that the hardware--based on internals alone, mind you--meets or exceeds the top Android-based devices on the market. You can make a "loose" argument for the Nexus One, but each of the successive Nexii haven't even been close in terms of the relation to the true top end. It'll be the first Nexus that is, in theory, future proof for a bit of time. And that's future proof aside from updates, which each Nexus obviously gets before everything else.

Although, I do agree. The hardware has always been relevant, mainly b/c that's the focus--complete software/hardware integration.

No one is following you around. It just so happens that you've posted incorrect information in here. Just because you're wrong doesn't mean someone is following you around or insulting you.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say next year we will see a Moto Nexus.
