I just need the storage for music. Google Music works fine but uses up a ton of data, terrible when you're limited to a measly 3 gig a month

I like to have my music on board since I use poweramp and downloading the music never works properly/

Yeah I'd be fine with 8 gigs probably if I didn't use my phone as a full featured mp3 player. I even got a pair of bluetooth headphones!

As far as gaming goes imo gaming sucks on a phone. Even at 4.7 inches, still too small. Granted it was fine on my psp which had a 4.3 inch screen, but I also had dedicated buttons so my hands weren't on the screen blocking my view.

I'm looking at my Verizon GNex and I'm only using 6 GB out of the 32 GB on board now.

I once had a iPhone 3gs 8 GB and ran out of space due to the apps. I like having the space for games and so on.

I don't like cloud due to network speeds and coverage. Why should I use all my data to stream stuff when I could have it on my device direct? Its also much quicker. I old in the sense like I like it to be there on demand. :)

By the way. Out of the 16gb on board I only have 1.56gb of space left. That's full of games, music and podcasts. Android central rocks. :)

$399 sucks. I'd rather have a phone that was a bit less fancy and reasonably priced than an overkill model with no storage that costs a mint. I mean if it had 16 gigs of storage or more then the price isn't bad. But 8 gigs is useless.

I was really hoping Google would keep the new nexus at $350 and give the best possible hardware they could get at that price. Who knows though, no one knew how much the nexus 7 was going to cost or how much storage it was going to have till the release date. I'd gladly pay $399 for a 32 gig model

Gotta disagree with you there. I don't know for sure about storage, but EVERYONE knew long before the Nexus 7 was released that it was going to check in at $200. Phil was asking for months if a regular Android tablet @ $199 was enough to be successful without Google better defining the usage case.

If the LG Nexus is at least 16GB and $350-$450 I will get it no questions if it takes much more or is lacking in storage I'll be forced to wait until it either gets more storage or down in price.

So I'm thinking really what is there to complain about? This new nexus is not only superior to the gnex its on par with the best phones on the market! Build quality looks to be solid, screen is better, specs are on par with the galaxy s3, and it sounds like their will be at least a 16 gig model. The battery is built in but at 2200mah battery life should be great. I'm looking forward to this phone myself.

Anything under $500 is pie in the sky wishful thinking. The Galaxy Nexus had unimpressive hardware in every spec other than screen res and launched close to $600. This has the most cutting-edge chip in the platform, as much RAM as anything else, and a fancy IGZO screen. Why would it be cheaper than, say, an S3 or One X+? There's no reason to think it will be cheap other than the rumoured limited storage. And for the poster that thought $400 was expensive... Get ready to be disappointed :S

Not that I completely disagree with your point but I'll explain why its very possible. Google makes money from apps, and they make money from ads when someone with a smart phone(like this one)uses Google. So if they price it very competitively and get more handsets in the hands of ppl, then it helps their numbers in other areas. Samsung and HTC simply make money from their hardware.

It also seems like Google might be in a transition with their play store. Look at the Nexus 7, it has top of the line hardware, mostly better than any tablet on the market yet its half the price of the competition as well. So they CAN sell these at a great price if they so choose. They don't rly need to deal with 3rd party retailers or even carriers since this is a pentaband unlocked phone sold on their own store. So their overhead is a lot lower.

If Google doesn't compete heavily in price then I don't see the phone doing well at all. Obviously I'll buy it but an average consumer will not. Unless they work with carriers to get that subsidy and I don't see that happening. Anyway, time will tell on the price but I'll stay a bit optimistic.

I don't think the average consumer will buy it regardless of the price. People are hooked on subsidized phones. Tablets are a different story all together.

By that logic, Google should scrap the Nexus program altogether.

I think recently there has been a huge surge of ppl willing to buy unlocked phones and use on carriers like Straight Talk and the other MVNOs. Ppl are scrapping for cash and rather save money on their monthly bill. No doubt Google sold quite a few of the $399/$349 Nexus devices to those ppl and will continue to do so if they can continue to offer it at a reasonable price.

So maybe not the "average" consumer but the informed consumer will purchase a great product at a value price.

It makes me wonder...

In the US, which do you think sold more - The Play Store Galaxy Nexus or the two Galaxy Nexus models for Verizon and Sprint?

That's the point. The people that actually follow this stuff like us posting here aren't average consumers. The nexus was originally developer devices so even then most of US are on the fringe of the desired consumer base. The carrier branded nexus phones have seen delays and should have nexus in "quotes".
I think that eventually people's purchasing habits will change but not anytime soon.
Google shifted marketing strategies with the Nexus 7 and marketed it to the masses. Let's see what kind of $ they put behind the LG nexus and the 10 inch tab.

It's a tough call tbh. I follow slickdeals so I know there was a good amount of ppl who bought from play store for the $30 T-Mo plan and the $45 ST plan. So it def sold a fair amount of phones. I also think the competition is a bit less. Hands down when that went to $350 that was the best device to buy for the price, while if you walk into Verizon or Sprint there are better devices for the money and the contract.

I think either way a lot of it which was niche customers but niche looking at different things. The play store likely for the great value and the Verizon because they support Google and Android as a whole. Because I think for the most part it wasn't the "best" device for sale and I think this will be somewhat the same. It'll have its positives and its negatives, but come 6 months I think we might see history repeat itself and if this drops to $399 then it'll likely be the best device for the money.

I wouldn't be shocked to see it start at $600 but I can understand why and how Google can mark it lower.

Edit - The other factor that might make a difference is the competition this year. The S3, One X+. Optimus G, Note 2, Butterfly, etc.....Its going to be hard for this phone to stand out.

Yeah it's going to have to be $400 or less or it won't sell much at all. Remember the nexus one? It was what $500 and sells were less than stellar.

Honestly they should of used the tegra chipset. Not only would it been more budget friendly, but why wouldn't you want some consistency in your hardware? Just seems a bit ridiculous, all nexuses have completely different chipsets. Before anyone says it, I know this chipset is more powerful than the tegra, I mean hell the dual core snapdragon s4 is more powerful than tegra but just for consistency and price it would of made more sense imo.

But I don't know the price and no one else does either so I guess we'll wait and see.
