Why the sudden shift from the 5x to 6p

Is the MXPE really that bad with battery life, I'm torn between the 6p and the MXPE. I have a Galaxy Note 4 and TouchWiz lag is ridiculous, the phone is about a year old and it sucks now.

I'm returning mine, it's all boxed up and ready to go. The standby time was ok, good actually, but anything that required the screen really sucked battery. I browse a lot on my phone, and with browsing on chrome and whatsapping and bbming, checking my Flickr and instagram (and facebook to a lesser extent) as well as prowlong these forums, I'd get a max of 3.5 hrs screen on time with an average closer to 3hrs.

So if my baby wakes me at 5am and I feed her and get her back to bed and I take my phone off the charger and browse etc till about 7:30am I'll be down to about 35%. I know not everyone uses their phones like this, but I find I have to charge sometimes twice a day after taking it off the charger at 5am so I've decided to return it. Truth is I only ordered it because rumor was that the 6P was gonna be delayed. I'm just glad the MXPE is still within the 14day return period so I ordered the 6P as it was available online (1:21pm EST) and am looking forward to it and improved battery life!

That terrible battery life I started with was in regards to the nexus 5. The MXPE battery life seems good, the battery isn't bad and it charges very fast.

I'm still going to go for the bigger battery of the 6P though.

Hope I didn't mislead you, we got on a nexus 5 tangent for a sec there.

I think the 5X is a fine device. If that were the only Nexus offered this year, I'd probably buy one. I've been sold on the Huawei Nexus for a while, but I don't get the disappointment at the 5X's specs. The only bummer I got from the listing was the single speaker. The 2GB of RAM thing is totally overblown. The N5 runs Marshmallow like a champ with 2GB of RAM and a much older processor. The 5X will do just fine in real life, and I think once it's released the Internet community will see that.

I use my phone just like you do so I appreciate the honesty, I just don't want to be wall hugging with a charger because I'm on my phone searching the web reading articles or trying to check football scores to see how my QB is doing.

Two items, battery and speakers. Very disappointed about not having wireless charging like my Nexus 5.

When I saw all the leaks, I wasn't sure I wanted either phone. I ordered the Moto XPE and thought that would be close enough for me. After actually seeing both phones, on the Google event & hands-on videos; I totally changed my mind. The leaks didn't do these phones justice, especially the 6P. They made the hump on the back look much bigger than it actually was.

I'm what you would call a Nexus fan-boy and would have got one of the phones anyway, but I'm much more excited about it now. The 6P really exceeded my expectations, on build quality and looks. I already liked everything else it was rumored to have (USB-C, better camera, bigger battery).

I pre-ordered both with the intent to decide later. I didn't care as much as others about the looks of the 6P. My issue was size. It's bigger than I really want. My main reasons for leaning towards that now are the battery size and screen used. I think it'll be a little easier to manage 1 handed with the fingerprint sensor where it is. Won't have to stretch to type or swipe a code. Hope I'm right. No other phone is really interesting me yet

I think 5X is still and will be the popular model. People are cheap in general and they are going to buy the one that's cheaper. People who care already pre ordered the 6P but long term 5X will easily outsell 6P and the 16GBb model will be the most popular one even though no one should buy that IMO.

6P is just new device in general that is just more intriguing than the 5X. There was Nexus 6 but it was very moto just a big Moto X.

I had an N4 and still have an N5 and N6.

IMO,both the 5X and 6P are disappointing and come up short of the mark.

I ordered a 5X for my son because he wants the smaller size no matter the "thought to be inferior".

I'll stay with my N6 until there's a SD820 and quick charging 3

IMO,Google should have made the 5X now with the 6P specs, wireless charging and OIS and early next year a 6P made by LG with the SD820.

Google, how about an optional back/case with wireless charging?

Getting everything I want in my devices seems to be as impossible as always

Can anyone make a 32GB 5.2" stock android phone with 3GB/4GB memory, wireless charging,sd slot.removable battery, high quality camera w/OIS,support for all GSM carrier bands and gets android updates almost as quickly as Nexus device for around $600.

You know, I've always thought that the Nexus 6 wasn't supposed to be a Nexus. My theory is that it was a Moto S or something, at first, but Google didn't get any nibbles on Project Silver... which would have eliminated the need for a Nexus line. So later in the process, they snagged the big Moto and turned it into a Nexus.

The Android Silver Program was never confirmed so hard to speculate anything. To be honest I don't know what need is for Nexus Line is now. Motorola, One Plus and more companies are leading the off contract close Pure Android campaign. The big OEMs have trimmed down their skined versions of Android quite a bit.

The idea Google wants break into the mass market mobile seems fars fetched because Google has the capitol and resources to do that years ago. I more inclined to believe a recent article by the verge title "Google's Nexus phones are ads" which seems very plausible. As fan I love Nexus line but I wonder where they are going with line of late.

At this point Google could in house just make a reference phone for Devs and OEM partners because the Nexus Phones have moved to marketing tool for Google.

I have a feeling we're seeing the last of the Moto we grew to appreciate. Lenovo is tearing that to bits. And OnePlus.... Bit player. The Nexus line isn't obsolete, not in the least. That they released two phones is testament to that.

The specs on nexus 6p just sealed the deal. I was liking the 5x but 6p has added specs and looks very premium too

I don't think devices on technological point are not obsolete. I am arguing what Google original purpose for Nexus Line has undoubtedly been little lost the past couple of years in regards of there phones.Google's original devices for Nexus Line were "halo devices" for android. I just don't see that in the recent devices meeting the need to be "halo device" to show where oems need to go. Most OEM's are moving hardware and software wise to Google's tune. I am happy for Nexus line exist but can't say they are clear or leading example of android devices should be today. The Nexus 5X and 6P both have no pioneering feature for the OEMs to follow. They are just simply better Nexus devices for a niche consumer base which they don't profit from the devices themselves but the publicity. Therefore I just don't see them as the purpose of a "halo device" that Nexus campaign was all about.

Interesting idea, I've noticed the last few years that when the nexus rumors start and they rumor a certain OEM they always say the nexus will be based on whatever the OEM's current flagship is, i.e. the LG G3 for LG back in the day and so forth.

Then the nexus comes out and even if the specs are comparable (they are across all current flagships) the phone doesn't look like a copy. Both the nexus 4 and 5 looked like uniquely designed phones.

Then the nexus 6 comes along and is a moto x on roids which fits with your theory.

Yeah.... that is what kind of piqued my curiousity. The Nexus 4 and 5 had zero resemblence to their G-series donors.... But here was a phone that was, by all accounts, other than the big ol' NEXUS trampstamp, a Moto. Now, I guess what complicates things a little bit was the simple fact that Motorola was owned by Google at the time.

Then again.... Looking at this latest launch... the OEM of these phones are being brought much more into the forefront. Huawei should get a ton of exposure along with the 6P. Now they are officially 'blessed' by Google, so the US mobile-buying public may not dismiss that odd brand much longer. Maybe the Nexus 6, rather than a rebranded Moto, was a shift in how OEMs were involved with the Nexus program. It is less "You build me this phone" and more "let's build this phone together".

I feel the same way about my note 4! It, and TouchWiz, is a crappy combo. Hello graphite 64gb 6p! Ftw!

I am still using my stock Nexus 5 from Jan/2014 and my only complaint now is games crashing and pretty weak battery. Ive never had an issue with GPS. The $70 premium blew my mind on the 32GB models! I don't know how they came up with the math, considering the 5X is more than the 5 was in 2013 ( finger scanner?) but there is just no way you don't take all the upgrades the 6p provides, battery, speakers, and amoled being the big ones for me, to carry me through another 2 years, if not more.
