Why Verizon has delayed the JellyBean 4.1 ota on the vzw Galaxy Nexus

Anybody think it has anything to do with the iphone(y) 5 coming out! I think they want to sell a ton of the iphone 5's and if the nexus phone with Jelly bean is better and smoother- why spend the money on an iphone 5 when you can have better with the SIII or the nexus... Idk just throwing it out there....

And you are incorrect. It's the same testing delay every update goes through. There is no conspiracy. Lol. :)

I thought the letter from VZ cited by the OP looked pretty reasonable as explaining the process.

Today I walked into my VZ store to buy an accessory; the mgr walked up to me and said "how do you like the phone"? I said, great except for the horrible BT voice quality since the first update. She spent a lot of time checking the system to see if an update was forthcoming. As others posted, nothing on the screen. She offered to swap the phone out for me if I came back in(would have a tech listen to the BT first). I said I'd rather wait if an update comes. I just hope it comes before the warranty ends. I don't see the sense of swapping for the same phone and OS. Didn't even try to swap for the S3, etc.

To all the crybabies here what would you do if they put the update out and it screwed your phone up who would you be calling Samsung? Google? no you would be calling verizon. That is why they test it to make sure it is right. I would rather wait for a good update then have a update that screws my phone up

Let's keep this dialogue academic and courteous. Thanks :)

sorry I wasn't clear. She didn't offer the S3 and I didn't ask. If I "give up" on this nexus, I would push for the s3.

Verizon has to understand that Nexus users are more willing to try out less-than-stable releases. Most of us bought this phone for the vanilla Android experience. So many have already rooted their phones. Why won't Verizon understand that people who root their phones and install custom ROMs are people who probably won't complain about the little bugs and things on their phones.

People will be getting iOS6 before toros get Jelly Bean. This is unacceptable. It doesn't matter how thorough of a job they are doing, Sprint had to do the same. Yet their update is out. So clearly Verizon is NOT doing a good job here.

if the Galaxy S3 gets official OTA Jelly Bean before Galaxy Nexus, which is looking more likely,
I think most current Galaxy Nexus owner should be allowed to exchange their phones for the S3.

before the .4 update i had a few but minor bugs with my Gnex in may, way past the exchange date, and they offered to swap my phone for a razr phone, but I too opted to wait for the bug fix update. It fixed all my problems except for the no connection to camera. If my screen goes to sleep with camera on it will not connect and have to restart phone still.

But the vzw hq rep said it was the radios that is holding up the update for JB 4.1 and said it would take a few weeks to create new radios before the update can go out, so we'll probably get it the same time the S3 may get it, but samsung does the update not google for the S3 because of how touchpiss is integrated to android os . I like the S3 a lot, I'd get one if there was vanilla android on it, hoping these specs are in the new nexus phones or maybe better.

when verizon releases 4.1, it wont be just for gnex....sg3 will get it as well and maaaybe some of the newer moto's (maybe verizon's looking to do a mass release of the update so several of their phones get it, not just one phone)

I'm curious, we still have to get the IMM76Q first, right? I assume they will release both together?

Id be fine with them holding back just to make sure there are no problems but it seems almost every time an os update goes up there is problems anyway. Ics on the razrs is a disaster. I see lots of freezing and reboot problems. The nexus had problems too. The htc incredible update was screwed up too. Gingerbread on the droid x was messed up as well. Its infuriating that they take the time but still screw it up. Im looking forward to jellybean but im not going to be shocked when it screws up something on my phone.

Unlock bootloader and update it yourself? :)

So the radios on the leaked OTA are stable and we are still going to believe an email from some unknown Verizon rep who probably is not even based in the US?

The radios are great.

Two things that I think needs to be done by Google to make these update go smoother.

1. Google needs to get new OS's to carriers sooner... well before they officially release it to the public. It's very irritating to see a new OS released and not be able to use it months later on a Google device.

2. Google should put deadlines on carriers for releasing the updates to the public... it makes Google look bad when a carrier takes so long to release their update... and in my opinion what's the point of buying a Google device if you can't get new OS's right away, other than having stock Android.

Truer words have never been written...First we'll get the update, then everyone will scream it doesn't work right...then we'll get all the patches for it until EOL. I'm gonna' let everyone guinea this one for a while before I update.

I talked to a rep this morning and they said VZW was going to wait for Google to release Key Lime pie.....just kidding

Truthfully I spoke online with a rep and acted like I wanted to buy the GN and I wanted 4.1 on the phone and they said when you get the phone you can just click system update and I would get the latest OS.....

I see my car salesman has found a new job working for Verizon Wireless!!!??? :)

He promised that I would get laid more often when I bought the BMW M5(off lease
with 14000 miles only) from him a couple of years ago. So far, it has not worked
out that way. :( Still waiting. (in fact, the people who seem to like my M5 the most
are my gay friends/co-workers, as well as my 84-year-old grandma) :(
