WE don't need the launcher app because it is already in our phones. Actually mine is on by default.

its not a launcher app. its an app that extends use of your tags. U can create your own actions and write them to the tag. your phone doesn't have a launcher app u have an app called tags that just reads the tags. NFC Task Launcher is an app that actually puts those tags to real good use

would nfc be compatible with the credit card readers currently at certain stores where you just tap your mastercard to pay? Be nice if I could program my phone with the same info as my credit card... But probably also makes identity theft a little more scary

Let me clarify a little now that I'm not on my nexus and can type my thoughts out more.

I have two credit cards that have an RFID chip in them and I can read them with the Nexus NFC reader. They come up with "Unknown tag type", so the tags are probably encrypted or something - whatever it is, the Nexus doesn't know how to read them.

So, I'm wondering if the NFC on the Nexus can be modded to transmit the same codes that are embedded into the chips on my credit cards, so I could theoretically pull up a "Credit Card Wallet" app on my Nexus, select the credit card to use, put my phone on the RFID reader at the point of sale, and it would be charged to my credit card as if I had placed my credit card down on the reader.

The access to this exists, but it's not in any public API. *Who* has access to this is still being worked out as well as the method of access (it changed when 2.3.4 was introduced). Card emulation is also still a "work in progress" according to the official comments from folks at Google. However, they are trialling their own payment system, so they clearly have it going at some level. How public it ever becomes is yet to be seen. For P2P and standard exchange of data/tags they are pushing enableForegroundPush using NDEF messages.
