Why was the Gnex's camera chosen?

True, but without sdhc & 2mp/8mp its a bust. For right now i'll still have to carry around my iPh4S & Nexus One

I'd much prefer a high quality screen over having an SD card slot and cameras that are only imagined to be better. You use the screen every time you use the phone; the same cannot be said of the camera or SD card.

Thanks for this! I think i saw this when the thread was first posted, but i still went back anyway to see if my opinion changed. It didn't.

Like the previous poster said, it's got a cold washed out tone to the pictures it takes as opposed to the warm vibrant colors on iphone/other phones.

Take these two for example. The first one is the nexus and it just looks so incredibly..."plain". Boring.

This next one is the 4s and you can see without even having to look hard the colors are much much better.

With most of the pics i've seen, on average, the nexus ones are usually softer with less sharpness. And like the original post said in the thread you linked to "It appears that low-light performance is a weakness but I also believe that the very fact of the zero shutter lag capability contributes to poor image quality, too".

The videos also came out poor as, for whatever reason, there was a warping to the picture. Digital image stabilization issue maybe? Picture might look better with this turned off.

It's pretty prevelant in this video

Honestly, i haven't reached any final conclusion. Right now i'm just in "not too impressed" status waiting on some real hands on time with this sucker. Maybe the white balances could be changed for the picture and the stabilization turned off for the video. I think we should just all agree on something...

This "mp don't matter derp" diatribe needs to just die. Yes, we know megapixels don't matter. What we're focusing on are the pictures and we've heard that the camera sensor itself hasn't progressed technologically as much as it should. If the sensor hasn't changed at all from last year's 5 mp sensors, you can't use the argument "mp don't matter" just to counter someone's opinion you don't like. There are alot of things that come into play with cameras besides mp. BSI, shutter, software optimization, mp do matter sometimes, sensor, lens.

Most of us, when we criticize the nexus' camera, are doing it from the actual pictures and not some number written down on paper. Overall, it's a pretty good camera. But not the best. We should all be able to agree on that. I'm a little shocked at all those defending this camera like their religion (nexus) is being attacked and they need to spring into action. Especially since most people aren't buying the nexus for the camera, i don't see anything wrong with saying "Yeah, camera isn't that great. And that's a flaw. I bought it for the nexus experience anyway".

That 'warping' is the glass window the video is being taken through. ;)

I know man. And these other tricksters that put giant panes of glass outside when they do their sample videos. It's not right going to that much trouble just to show warping. But i do give 'em props though. This is a way better hoax than the moon landing

Drop the attitude. That original video you posted was from the launch of the GN in China, and was taken inside of a building with curved glass. THAT is the reason for the distortion in that video. (pictures were also taken, and showed the same distortion) Interestingly, the panning motion in that video (the same as in the second video you posted) shows none of the distortion effect.

This is all going to be based on opinion; you guys need to realize that. What looks good to one person might not look good to another. For example, I think that the iPhone and the S2 emphasize colors more than they should (and they do? it's a software tweak, used to make the images more appealing to a majority of people; a lot of people think that the emphasized colors look better than their actual form).

Since this is based at least loosely on opinion, there will continue to be pointless arguments. In the end, it doesn't even matter. It's a decent camera, which can probably be great in the hands of someone who knows how to use it better.

This makes the most sense. Just wondering: JKK photography. Do you do photography for a living? I would think anyone in that line of work would look at us arguing over tinys camera sensors in phones and laugh their ass off

I prefer the nexus honestly. The colors look more real. I like my photos to look the way I saw them in person. I can't stand extremely warm looking photos.

LOL, I don't know how RIM stays in business !!

my mom just gave my lil cousin her old blackberry when my mom got the t-bolt. My cousin loves it but has never really had anything close to a smartphone so it's like a whole new world to her lol
