Why won't my Samsung Galaxy S4 allow me to use Google search?

My Samsung Galaxy S4 no longer allows me to use google search

I reset my password for gmail on my chromebook. When I try to use google search engine nothing happens.
I can access my gmail account on both devices but google search only works on the chromebook.
I reset my phone to default settings, then I powered the phone off. Both attempts failed to solve issue.
Please advise.

Welcome to Android Central! Did you try removing your Google account from the S4, then adding it back again, in Settings>Accounts​?
