WI-FI Back and forth between 5Ghz & 2.4Ghz

When I'm at home I have a separate SSID for 5Ghz only, During the day I access WI-FI from an enterprise AP - 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Not a huge problem but the V10 changes between the two throughout the day (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz), when I'm at the same exact location, and I'm not that far from the AP. Signal is very strong, so that's not the issue. the 5Gz is many times faster so it would be nice to make it stick to that.

On an unrooted phone I take it no way to select one over the other? Messing with the enterprise (work) AP not an option.

Are both the 5 and 2.4 GHz networks named the same? I'm not sure how you can tell the phone to 'stick' to a certain frequency if the SSID is the same, to be honest.

You have to name them differently and then choose the one you want to use.

Unfortunately, it seems, the OP doesn't have control over the hotspot settings, so having different SSIDs for each antenna might not be an option. I do agree, however, that's the solution in this case.

He may not have any control on the AP side, but he can see which SSID is the 5ghz one in his settings and select it. I do believe that you have to have the automatic connect box unchecked to do this in the Wi-Fi settings, then he can select any available WiFi he has access to when the phone scans and shows them. If he has a password protected system he can go into the advanced settings of the WiFi settings and enter his information there.

I have a dual band at home and have them named different and can select between the two because both are shown in the settings.. His should be as well with the automatic connect box unchecked. It's not as convenient, but doable.

There's the one SSID for both 2.4 & 5Ghz and no control over it. Under Advanced WI-FI no option to select one over the other. As I mentioned, at home I have two SSID's.

Yeah, but to change the name of the network he needs access to the AP. IF both networks are named the same, which is the case here, the phone will only store one network as it uses the name to connect. That's actually how most hacks happen in coffee shops, by naming the phony network with the same SSID.

He doesn't have to change the name on the AP. while he is at work... That is unless the AP is showing 1 SSID for both bands and they usually don't since both have a different log ID address. He should be able to to manually choose which one he hooks up to each time. If his is randomly changing on it's on, he will have to watch it in his settings and then go into the advanced section and choose to forget the 2ghz band. Then it should show when he enters that WiFi location each time and give him the pop up to choose the one he wants to use. As long as it is set to automatically connect it won't.

He can also talk to his IT department and get the preferred Mac address to the 5ghz band and enter it in in the advanced settings.

Sorry.. Didn't see your post. Talk to your IT department and get the SSID address for the right band and enter it in under the advanced settings in add WiFi then name it... then uncheck the automatic connect box. This should allow you to connect to that band and give you a pop up when available.
