My cable/Internet are out today, so I'm thinking of turning on Verizon's Wi-Fi hotspot service. Anyone have any experience with it?

(I'm not rooted, so my options are pretty limited.)

I use it anytime I have my netbook in a place without wi-fi. It works great. Not real fast - under 1m but stable.

just use PDAnet for free.....

I've used it... it works well...

I've used the hotspot... it works well too...

I am now rooted and use wireless tether... I like it the most.

I'm using mine now. My battery is at 35%. It's 2:30 PST. I'll check back in after an hour and see what happens.

After an hour of using the hot spot my battery went from 35% to 10%. That seems to be 25% per hour. Pretty significant.

I ended up getting both the Verizon Wi-Fi Hotspot Service and PDAnet. The Hotspot service is OK -- dead simple to set up and use, but pretty slow. (Around around 275Mbps down, 320Mbps up)

PDAnet was great on a USB connection, but I couldn't get it to work via BT with my laptop or iPad. It was MUCH faster than the Hotspot Service -- 600Mbps down, 520Mbps up.

Although I like "free" better than $20/month for 2GB, I think I'm going to keep the Verizon service through the winter. We've been having tons of power and cable/Internet outages this winter, so it's worth having an extra link.

Uhh, I think you mean Kbps, yes?

I'd kill for 275Mbps! lmao
