Not getting the same signal strength i used to, even bought a new better model extender is there really an app that will actually help

Not really. You might consider buying a mesh system if you have trouble getting WiFi throughout your home. Mesh systems are much better than WiFi extenders as they have a dedicated channel for the "backhaul" to the router, which means you get FULL WiFi speed rather than the half that extenders provide.

Extenders are terrible. Go for a mesh system for the best coverage. I got a set of 3 Meshforce nodes on Amazon for $170, and they are absolutely terrific. I had these dead spots upstairs in my kids' rooms, and it was so bad that I couldn't even stream on Roku without constant buffering. I went from 3mbs to 150mbs after putting a node upstairs.

how old is the router? routers lose their signal strength as they get older. have you added more wifi devices in your house? could be signal interference between the router and the extender or even between the extender and the device.
