WIFI calling

Are you sure about that? Seems weird that using wifi counts against minutes.

Yes. When checking usage you can see the calls and the minutes it used. Majority of everyone has unlimited on T-Mobile so it isn't really an issue.

On my Note 4 I can now send MMS via wifi calling with a 3rd party app... Glad they fixed that.

I am having problems receiving text on T-mobile's Galaxy s5 when on WiFi calling. I tested it and TEXT MESSAGES NEVER ARRIVE when on WiFI calling. T-Mobile is saying they have no known issues in regards to this and basically shrugged their shoulders.

I did some research online and it appears that the issue of text messages not arriving when on WiFi calling may be related to the android operating system. Not sure how true that is. There definitely is an issue with receiving text on WiFi with the Galaxy S5 though.

Which third party so do you use to get MMS while Wi-Fi calling?

I use ChompSMS but it seems on the Note 4 they have a default message app feature (see below) and once I set ChompSMS as my default.. It works with wifi calling.

I use Textra on the S4. I don't have any problems with it. They added a special setting for T-Mobile wifi calling.

The setting doesn't really do anything. All it does is when it sees a MMS it turns wifi off and forces mobile data to grab it.. Then turns wifi back on.

While this is a work around.. It won't work for people who have low to no signal and are relying on their wifi calling for all service.

I use ChompSMS which is made by the same people as textra. I don't have the wifi calling option enabled and it works now.. So in the latest version it seems like the default app actually makes it so MMS will work properly over wifi calling.. Versus the work around.

I am confused. How can I get the default messaging app to properly receive all MMS when on WIFI calling exactly?

I have been reading T-MOBILE forum posts and T-MOBILE is now admitting that there is an issue with some of their phones properly receiving texts when on WIFI calling.

It depends on the phone. I have a Note 4 and it seems they have fixed it.

I go under settings, More networks, and I can set a default app (see below). I've had friends try this and I've seen some people in the Note 4 section on these forums follow what I did and it allowed them to send MMS via wifi calling.

Thanks. The problem isn't so much with sending MMS on WIFI calling though, it is receiving them.

I am also looking to see if there is a solution or fix available yet for WIFI calling with the default stock messaging app.

The default app thing I showed fixes the sending and also receiving MMS messages. Since I got the Note 4 I can send and people can send me pictures or video without me even noticing a difference from my mobile connection.

Also wifi calling should always work with the default stock app that came with the phone. On my Note 3 I had issues with 3rd party apps (like ChompSMS) but the stock always worked on wifi calling.

Do you have a 3rd party app that you use? If so that would be the reason the stock isn't taking the MMS when it is received.. The 3rd party is and it's failing.

I had this issue at first, too.... after a while it stopped being a problem though.

Well unlocked or locked it has to be a tmo device. I just wanted ppl to know that it can't just be any unlocked gsm phone but specifically a tmo branded device that supports wifi calling. This is something I didn't know until a rep told me.

No it doesn't. I have a Verizon iPhone 6 and switched to t-mo and I have wifi calling. Without it, the calling reception at my house is very poor and choppy.

You do realize that was written long before the iPhone 6 was released?

Not for my wife and I, on HTC Sensation 4Gs, it doesn't.

Not quite accurate. It can be an unlocked BYOD device, but it has to be a T-Mobile-branded device.

And therein lies the rub: T-Mobile's coverage is such that many people need WiFi calling, but, to get WiFi calling, you have to accept manufacturer and carrier bloat, along with slow-to-nonexistant O/S updates.

Right now we're deciding whether to just live with it or switch carriers. It'd be too bad if we did. We like T-Mobile, but phones that don't work aren't much use.

Jim
T-mobile tend to upgrade pretty fast for updates and they don't brand like Verizon does. The note 4 actually has no branding physically from t-mobile and only the boot up does. AT&T branding isn't terrible as well since they only put the globe on it which is OK

It REALLY depends on the phone.

I have 2 HTC one S. I switched to Tmo specifically for the WiFi calling. It has never worked very good on this model phone, even though at the time it was Tmo's preferred phone.

Talk to Tmo, they say there is no issue, and if there were, it is an HTC issue. Call HTC, they say Tmo isn't smart enough to trouble shoot their own software.

And I sit with a paper weight.
I had the original M7 htc one. I didn't need wifi calling but just for the heck of it I tried it out from home and at work. And it work as advertised. Being that it was 2 similar phones? Could it have been an issue with your wifi/router, Internet connection?

They aren't similar other then the fact they both were made by HTC ...
