Wifi calling

Hi People.
Want to see if I can get some help.

I was previously on At&t.
Had a note 5 and a S7E.
On At&t when I wanted to do wifi calling so I went threw the internet to talk or use Data.
It didn't cost me any money.
All you had to do is pull down the screen and go to the Wifi calling Icon and turn it on.

Well since then I have gone to Verizon and got a S8+

Somebody suggested that I turn Airplane mode on and then turn wifi on.
Well great idea. But you can't make any calls in that mode.

You got to turn HD voice and Wifi on.
Then go to wifi calling only.
Well that is a lot of work to go threw.

Question is why don't Verizon have the icon like the S7E on At&t did.

Or does the people with the S8+ on At&t not have that option with the new S8+ phone either ?

Hard to say.. they just didn't want the icon. Just like Verizon prefers cellular versus the wifi.

With Cellular you use Data.
And if you don't live in a big city, and you don't get a good signal, Wifi is the way to go, in both ways.

Cellular calls don't count towards data even as VoLTE.

As for the icon, Verizon chose to remove it. Just like removing the ability to make wifi calls in airplane mode.

Wifi calling uses more battery and the call quality isn't as good as VoLTE so I keep it off unless absolutely necessary.

I bet it takes away from your data plan when 2 people share 8 GB a month.

And one person don't have internet 5 days a week.

And that is totally different than calls lol.

MMS does not count towards your data either. Video Chat will but that doesnt require wifi calling even in the Verizon video calling.

MMS:

You have to use a mobile data connection to send/receive MMS (they won't send/receive over wi-fi), but they count against your text plan, not your data plan.

Video Calling:

Data is automatically handed over to Wi-Fi when attached to 4G LTE and a known Wi-Fi access point.

You can petition Verizon on their forums about reinstating the wifi calling toggle but its unlikely they will listen. You could also try to re-add it through ADB.

Edit: If you can hold out until Bixby is publicly released you can just tell Bixby to turn on your wifi-calling which is easier than the toggle. Unless of course Verizon removes that ability too.

Well yeah for signal strength it makes sense.

For a call (which wifi calling is for) it doesn't matter if cellular or wifi.. it'll be unlimited minutes. Even if it's a VoLTE call using cellular it uses minutes not your data count even though the call is going through the data network.

Video calling would.. that's it. MMS is ignored as well since it falls under unlimited messages.

I am about a 1/2 mile from a verizon tower.
Only get 2 bars. When a storm comes, I don't get that.
The verizon folks say i'm too close to the tower for a signal.
That isca nother reason I needed Wi-Fi calling.
