WiFi Direct

I did a search and didn't really find any information. Has anyone been able to figure out how to use WiFi Direct? I was able to find and connect to a buddy's phone at work, but I didn't see any option to share a pic using this method.

From my understanding, WiFi Direct is similar to Bluetooth in that it connect two phone to exchange files. But it is at WiFi speed without need of a router.

Oh I guess I can't use that cause my old phone don't have WiFi Direct it just use WiFi.

I tried from LTE to LTE no luck...don't know what I'm doing wrong..

I was able to find and connect to a buddy that has the same phone, but WiFi direct was not one of the Share options. I am stumped
