Wifi dying on 4.4.2 Kitkat

I have an RCT6773W22 tablet running 4.4.2 Kitkat, and, after using it for about a year, the wifi reception is suddenly extremely weak. I plan to connect it to my computer and check for files that shouldn't be there, in case it was a result from connecting to an unsecured hotspot. I wanted to ask, does anyone know what might be wrong or how I might fix it?
