I doubt that the removal of that option means that you can no longer choose 5 GHz networks -- I think it just means you can't force it to use 2.4 GHz only, or 5 GHz only. If your router broadcasts 5 GHz, the phone should still be able to see that network.

Mine has the option under advanced to either 2.4, 5.0 or auto setting. Phone came from verizon tho, so probably different than the unlocked. Yes most routers have both 2.4 and 5.0 and modern phones such as the 10 have the ability to use either and will just connect automatically.
I was having trouble holding on to wifi when further away from the router so checking my settings I saw it set to auto. Changed it to 2.4 and no more issue at all. Kind of along the same train of thought why the default cellular setting is auto to global but never CDMA/LTE. I always get better , more stable RF when switched to CDMA/LTE and is one of the first settings I change when setting up a new phone. Why default is auto? No clue but the man in charge of such things doesn't necessarily know. Same with the wifi setting apparently. Why Auto? Glad some stuff is adjustable.

On my dual band router/modem I have 2 different access points listed for it. One is 2.4 and the other is 5. I am unaware of a modem that broadcast both under the same access point. Check your router and see what it lists on the side of it. If it's dual it should have 2 different access points names. Also if to many devices are connected and the HTC is the last one it could be getting the short end if the stick. Try disconnecting everything from wifi except the 10 and see if that also helps.

Google OnHub (Asus) definitely has only on AP for both. Not sure about Google Wi-fi. Maybe there is a way to split OnHub APs but i am not sure.

I've upgraded from the M8 which had great Wi-Fi range and with this HTC 10 I can't watch a video on the bedroom, and I live in a small apartment. Very disappointing my router doesn't seem to have the 5ghz band and my unlocked HTC European version doesn't have that setting either.
Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Oh, and the Bluetooth range sucks as well Very disappointed
