I'm still completely unable to you maintain a WiFi connection on any network. It's really frustrating to have a 4G phone with no 4G and way to stably connect to the web. Anyone else still having this problem.

Related info from a mis-topic'ed threads:

another issue i noticed is the phone doesn't switch over from wifi to 3g when i am away from my house. wifi would show no signal, but the phone would not switch over to 3g unless i turn off wifi manually. it's not a big deal since i turn wifi off anyways when i am away from home to save battery. it's just annoying sometimes if i forget to and not recieve data at all.

My wifi connects and disconnects even while in use. Just reading these posts, my wifi has gone to 3g and back 10+ times. It does it while on facebook, internet, or just sitting around. The most wifi time I get is a few minutes. I have a dual band router and tried using only 2.4 and 5 but no luck.

So I thought it may be a setting on the home router that the EVO didn't like (even though it should). So I switched to G only, still got dropouts. Switched authentication methods, still got dropouts.

Turned on "Bluetooth Coexistence" to "Preemptive" and BAM, the connection stayed for the rest of the night and for the first time, my 4AM Titanium Backup to Dropbox completed successfully! It's only a few hours of testing, but I have never gotten that steady of a connection at home with this phone. I have TomatoUSB firmware on my router FYI.

My first EVOLTE seemed pretty much incapable of staying connected to my home router. I thought it might have been the router - and maybe it was - but I've had two replacement phones since the first and neither had any problems in the wifi arena. So at some level I'm pretty sure the wifi connection problem was "in" the first phone.

It's definitely possible some or most peoples' wifi disconnect problems are router based, but for what it's worth I think mine were due to something in/with that first phone.

None here, sorry. I'm able to connect and stay connected. Not to mention achieve almost the same speeds as my laptop. Hope you get it figured out.

All things being nominal, wifi should just "work." I strongly encourage you to return and exchange the phone. I returned mine for problems pretty much the same as you describe. The replacement phone had no wifi problems, same routers, settings etc. Definitely a problem with the first phone.

Hope you get it resolved; I think the device is totally worth the effort. :)

After a day or two of trying forum suggestions (2.4ghz only, cdma only, nfc off, forgetting/re-adding the wifi network).. the problem went away, i don't know when or for which setting exactly, just at one point i noticed 'oh hey, the drops are gone'..

6/29 Update: scratch that, 2 wifi routers I use just want to disconnect/reconnect often. 1 wifi router seems fine (a belkin). guess i'll be connecting to the belkin until an ota comes out.

Thanks all. I've been following the WiFi posts pretty closely, and I've been hoping someone would discover that one setting that fixes everything. No luck. A guy can dream, right?

According to a Sprint rep in one of the EVO 4G LTE forum discussions:
Sprint and HTC are currently testing an update to fix the WiFi disconnect/reconnect/looping that some people are experiencing. It is related to specific routers and connection settings and how the phone operates and connects to these wireless routers. The update will correct an issue that causes the phone to disconnect from the WiFi access point. There currently is no ETA for the update, but it will be included in the next update released for this phone. It is not a hardware issue, it is a software issue.

Again, in my case it seemed like a hardware issue in that the original phone had a problem much like the one described above, and the replacement phone works fine in same locations, same settings.

Certainly possible there's a software solution to a hardware... inconsistency. Or something.

So there's no time frame for release yet, but there may be hope for a fix. :)

I recently changed the settings on my wifi manager app 2.4 Ghz channels from essential to extended and I haven't had a wifi signal drop in the past 3 days

I have my wifi set up to 2.4ghz only and best performance and I have not noticed any issues lately of my wifi dropping out, however my battery life sucks ass.

My WiFi works fine at home. My WiFi disconects constantly at my girlfriends house but she has a cheap 30 dollar router.

I had issues with her WiFi on my nexus. It would say it was connected but would have no internet so really i see no difference.

I get a stronger signal at home with this phone further away outside.

I am the same. The further away iam from the router when home, the better and stronger my signal is. This was not a problem at all with my evo3d.

Hey all, I just wanted to let everyone know that I finally gave up on trying to figure out the problem with my WiFi. After all of the failed suggestions, I figured it had to be a hardware problem, so I exchanged the phone, and and it fixed the issue. I can connect to WiFi without any trouble. Thank you all for your suggestions.

I really don't think it is the phone itself. I don't have this problem with any other router other than my home. At the gym, at a friends house, etc. it never drops. I have tried everything and it keeps dropping and coming back. Never happened on my 3D.

I have not experienced any problems with Wifi dropping since the update. For those that are still having problems, especially if it's not happening for every router, I would suggest checking to see if your neighbors are using the same Wifi channel as you. If your router doesn't support a 'survey' function to see nearby routers, you could use the free app "Wifi Analyzer."

Yes, I do use that app. It seems that there are other routers in the neighborhood that sometimes share the same channel. The reason I am not sure that is the problem with the phone is that none of the other devices that I am using with the same router are compromised like the phone is. Let's just say that your reasoning is correct. If I am using channel 10 and then 2 or 3 other people hop on to channel 10,would I see my wifi connect and disconnect?
