another issue i noticed is the phone doesn't switch over from wifi to 3g when i am away from my house. wifi would show no signal, but the phone would not switch over to 3g unless i turn off wifi manually. it's not a big deal since i turn wifi off anyways when i am away from home to save battery. it's just annoying sometimes if i forget to and not recieve data at all.
My wifi connects and disconnects even while in use. Just reading these posts, my wifi has gone to 3g and back 10+ times. It does it while on facebook, internet, or just sitting around. The most wifi time I get is a few minutes. I have a dual band router and tried using only 2.4 and 5 but no luck.
So I thought it may be a setting on the home router that the EVO didn't like (even though it should). So I switched to G only, still got dropouts. Switched authentication methods, still got dropouts.
Turned on "Bluetooth Coexistence" to "Preemptive" and BAM, the connection stayed for the rest of the night and for the first time, my 4AM Titanium Backup to Dropbox completed successfully! It's only a few hours of testing, but I have never gotten that steady of a connection at home with this phone. I have TomatoUSB firmware on my router FYI.
bc2k said:My first EVOLTE seemed pretty much incapable of staying connected to my home router. I thought it might have been the router - and maybe it was - but I've had two replacement phones since the first and neither had any problems in the wifi arena. So at some level I'm pretty sure the wifi connection problem was "in" the first phone.
It's definitely possible some or most peoples' wifi disconnect problems are router based, but for what it's worth I think mine were due to something in/with that first phone.
Sprint and HTC are currently testing an update to fix the WiFi disconnect/reconnect/looping that some people are experiencing. It is related to specific routers and connection settings and how the phone operates and connects to these wireless routers. The update will correct an issue that causes the phone to disconnect from the WiFi access point. There currently is no ETA for the update, but it will be included in the next update released for this phone. It is not a hardware issue, it is a software issue.
I have my wifi set up to 2.4ghz only and best performance and I have not noticed any issues lately of my wifi dropping out, however my battery life sucks ass.
