Wifi not connecting after 4.1.2 update.

Tuesday morning around 6:50 am, my phone received the system update to 4.1.2. I have a Droid 4 by Motorola. After receiving the update, my phone will no longer connect to my home wifi. Before the update, it worked just fine. I know my router is old and doesn't have the WPS option, but is there anyway to go around this or am I just screwed? I'd really like to be able to use wifi on my phone at home. I've tried everything from changing the security settings on my router to restarting my phone and forgetting the networks.

Hi Chelsea.

I also have just updated my phone today from 4.0.4 (ICS) to 4.1.1 (JB) via the "over the air" mode, and after the upgrade my home wifi router was no longer recognized. I sorted my wifi issue by going into my wifi router's settings, via my laptop, and changing the wifi "channel" to a lower value. Before the upgrade to JB, I was using channel 13 on my wifi router, but it did not like that number, so I switched it to channel 11, and it's now being recognized by my phone's wifi again. My phone's back on the net! Sweet!

Hope this helps you.

Cheers ... Pete

Thanks for the reply.

I tried this, my channel was currently set to 6, I tried to set it to 1 and again to 11. My phone doesn't like either. It sees the network, even says the network has excellent connection, and then when I go to connect, it doesn't connect. It is stuck on "connecting...". After pressing connect, the signal also changes to poor (which is wrong, I'm sitting beside the router.). I guess I'll have to live with it until I get a new router or there is a fix. I think it is stupid to have to update a router that worked perfectly before the update just to fit the update. There should be a way around this, I just don't know what it is...

No luck. The Droid 4 isn't set up quite like an HTC, so some of the settings they mentioned my phone doesn't have the option for. This is starting to get a bit ridiculous.

Thanks again

I am also having the same problem with my Razr Maxx with the 4.1.2 update. It can see my home wifi and it is stuck on "connecting". I tried to reboot the router and the Razr and it is still the same.

Try WiFi Analyzer from the Play Store - it's free and will show you how crowded the WiFi spectrum is for a particular location. Try pick a channel that doesn't overlap with other access points. Optimally each access point should have three dedicated channels - example - channel 9 denotes an access point that broadcasts on channels 8 through to 10. Access point will work with one channel free - if somewhat sub-optimally. If you have a very crowded spectrum pick a channel, for your access point, that has the least interference - I.e. a channel where your neighbours signal is really weak.

Attenuation is signal degredation. This happens when signal has to travel though walls and the signal drops off. Make sure that your access point is only broadcasting through one or two walls at most. A thick wall will degrade the signal by about half. Those green bars are extremely unreliable to determine signal strength for a number of reasons.

Interference may be caused by microwaves, some baby monitors, Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, cordless games console controllers. Make share these are turned off when diagnosing your connection. Also sit as close as possible to the access point and pick a clear channel if you can.

It's also possible that the update installed a new driver for your WiFi device. The only solution to that is rollback an upgrade somehow and wait for it to be fixed. Ask around some more forums specifying your android version, kernel version, and your phone's model number - some may have the same issue.

The Jelly Bean breaks compatibility with many older wireless routers. My older, but previously perfect D-link router would crash when the Jelly Bean phone would connect to it. The only work around I found that was successful for me, was to change a setting on my wireless router to support 802.11g connections only. (Turn off 802.11n). May not work for all of you, but at least this got my network humming along albeit at a somewhat slower pace. Long term fix will be to update my home router to a modern unit.
Hope this helps someone.

I dont think it has anything to do with router or the 802.11b or g.
The blessed wifi does not get enabled in the first place to look for a signal

Hope u got my point. Has it got anything with the driver for the hardware?

Hello, I had the same problem, before i switched off Wifi/N channel on my router. I don?t know if it is solution for your problem, but it is an idea.

I have a parallel difficulty but my handset connects well to my home net and has trouble connecting to 4G network since the update. I'm giving money for a data plan however I cannot use it!
