I'm a new Virgin Mobile USA customer, however I currently live in Canada. I bought the phone to use every summer, when I spend 6 weeks in weeks in Vegas.
Obviously, once across the border, I no longer had cell or data service, as I expected. However, I had hoped and expected that I could still use it for the camera, calendar, WiFi, etc. I entered the password to my home router/network that is actively serving my iPod, Canadian smartphone, tablet, laptop, and desktop without exception. It says my LG Optimus Elite is connected, but I can't download email, access the Google Play store, or download or post tweets. My Puffin browser is not working at all. The built in browser will load pages, all the while giving me umpteen messages that it doesn't recognize the certificates.
The clock is off by about 3 hours and 45 minutes, and it says it's February, 1980. So, getting to current appointments on the calendar is a nightmare. I installed the ClockSync app that did very little but display a box at the bottom of the screen with the correct time and date with the accuracy offset.
I managed to get the regular browser to load by turning off WiFi, turning on "Airplane mode", and turning WiFi back on again. This seemed to get the phone to stop searching for a network.
Anyway, any thoughts on how to make my WiFi fully functional until I return to the USA once again? I really like this phone better than my Canadian one, but I can't find it available.
