Wifi Problems with Kitkat

Anyone not using JD having this problem? I am. Have never used Juice Defender. What other app could be causing my problem?
Thanks,
b
Yeah, over here! N4 and never had JD installed. Wifi disabled (and greyed out), and not even able to enable after reboot.

I have AVG AntiVirus installed, Llama (now disabled, but makes no change) and Wifi Analyzer (for what I guess might influence wifi...)

Never had troubles with 4.3!

I have 2013 Nexus 7 with Easy Battery Saver by 2Easy Team (Not Juice Defender) and my Wi Fi is turning itself off and graying out requiring a reboot as well, just after loading Kit Kat. I do not think it is Juice Defender. I think Google...googled it again and pushed Kit Kat out with compatibility issues. Don't they do beta testing?? Shame on Google. Any fixes or patches to fix this new problem?

@serret2000, @Word of Reason - It looks like Easy Battery Saver was causing the wifi problem in my case. I read that 2x Battery Saver was also causing wifi problems for some. Try uninstalling any battery saver app you have installed. If that does not restore wifi, start uninstalling other apps that have any relation to wifi. In my case, the wifi came on by itself the moment the suspect app was uninstalled.

If you think about it, there are over 800,000 apps for Android. It would take them forever to test a updated OS with each app. It is up to the app maker to come out with an update to fix any compatibility issues which sometimes takes awhile.

@billdz
thanks, but I have got not battery saver apps!
Even worse: I just did a factory reset and STILL NO WIFI AVAILABLE (no apps installed, just plain Android 4.4 (build number KRT16S) on my 5 months old Nexus 4.
This is getting annoying. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks!

Except the problem here is almost certainly a bug in Android which it will be difficult/impossible for the app vendors to work around without degrading functionality as opposed to a compatability issue.

All these battery saver type applications are triggering the same issue in the same way. As a result of the periodic enabling and disabling of WiFi in the background Kitkat is eventually getting into a stuck 'turning on' state which shouldn't occur. The only thing the app vendors can likely do to prevent it is to disable that scheduling, which either means leaving WiFi on all the time, consuming power, or leaving it off when the screen is off which means you'll only get new emails/IMs etc when you turn the screen on.

JD will allow you to turn the schedule off in the settings. That does solve it, albeit with the aforementioned loss off functionality.

It is worth reiterating the point that the Nexus 5 (which incidentally has a slightly earlier version of KitKat than has been released for other devices) does not share the same issue. Either it does not have the same bug, or it doesn't affect the specific hardware/drivers for this device in the same way.

Sounds like you have a different issue, possibly even a hardware fault though if it happened at the same time as the upgrade that would be oddly coincidental.

If you can I would try a downgrade to Jellybean (Google it to obtain some online guidance). If you don't feel comfortable doing that, or it doesn't fix it then it is probably a warranty claim.

Didn't change anything on my phone, and it has been working fine for about two weeks, with Juice Defender Ultimate, and tonight, Wifi was grayed out again and I had to reboot the phone to turn it back on. Never had that problem with Android 4.2 or 4.3.

Based on some reports of wifi issues even without JD on KitKat, it sounds like there is some kind of KitKat bug that readily manifests itself on JD. The problem is, I think JD is "abandonware" at this point (which they are still selling, which is unethical IMO), otherwise there would probably be updates or even workarounds to this glitch put into place. Still, KitKat has made JD unusable on the N4.

I have removed all battery help apps and the wifi will not work on my Nexus 4 running 4.4 without first rebooting or turning off bluetooth.

I solved my wifi issue by uninstalling Easy Battery Saver. I'm no expert, but if removing all battery help apps does not cure your problem, perhaps try uninstalling any other apps that are somehow related to wifi start and stop. Hard to imagine why turning off bluetooth would make wifi work.

The wifi/bluetooth issue may be an unrelated problem. Wifi and bluetooth can interfere. You might want to try setting your router to use a different channel for wifi.

I have disabled juice defender from controlling the WiFi. So it now remains on all the time, without issue.

Agreed! Got an OTA upgrade to 4.4.2 this morning, and the wifi issue is still not solved. Just noticed that Bluetooth can't be switched on either (no idea whether that was the case on 4.4 too!). That makes it hard for me to believe this is a hardware issue. Google, please fix this!

@marks7389 I tried to downgrade to Jellybean, but I find it hard to find a decent manual to do so. For the record: I am using either Ubuntu 12.04 or Vista.
Downloaded SDK and ADB, installed Java, and the connection was made (adb devices shows my device!) I also downloaded Jellybean from the Google-site, but I am having troubles pushing that to my Nexus. Help would be appreciated!

Thanks again!

I would use wugfresh's toolkit instead:

my phone is updated to 4.4.2 but still slow wifi browsing speed is there. instead some apps take too long to open on network and some don't even open. now i am hating nexus and google... bugs bugs and bugs.......

Just updated to 4.2.2 Noticed no Wifi again. Went to Juice Defender, and all my settings were set back to default by the update. Had to reset all my preferences, and now Wifi is working again ( so far ).

You'll need fastboot installed - instructions here for Ubuntu:

Guide - How to set up ADB and Fastboot on Ubuntu (and other Linux-based systems) | VonDroid Community

Once that's installed you need to download the 4.3 Nexus 4 firmware and unpack it. With the phone in fastboot mode (turn it on with the vol up/down buttons held) run the included shell script. If done as root you should avoid the need to configure USB access. You may need to unlock the bootloader first if you haven't already (and assuming the script does not do it for you). That can be done by simply running the command 'fastboot oem unlock'. You can see if your bootloader is unlocked as it shows an open padlock at the bottom on the screen on booting.

Firmware downloads are here:

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

The catch-22 is that unlocking the bootloader technically invalids your warranty, which in principle could be an issue if you then wanted to return it.

I do not have Juice Defender.
My Wifi looks as though it is turning on, then it stays off. Lots of my apps moved off of my home screen. Other than that things seem to be working fine. They happened the moment I got the update from Kies3.
Rebooting is not working.
This is also widely reported on sprint customer forums, which is who I go through.

I am having the same problem with my lg g2 running stock kitkat. I use juice defender ultimate too. Anyone solved this problem?
