Wifi Q & A

My problem was that the Incredible couldn't connect to my home network (running on an Airport Express) unless I broadcast the SSID. I'm not thrilled with the idea of broadcasting the SSID, regardless of whether or not I'm using WPA2 with a good password.

So what's better for the battery? To have it on 3G or to have it via wifi?

I'm at work 9-5 and we have wifi here.

Once I get home I have wifi the rest of the night.

Would it be better for the battery to be on wifi?

I believe Wifi is better for battery life than 3G. Hopefully, your work wifi isn't like my work wifi (see my previous post in this thread).

My DInc (Froyo 2.2) connects via wifi no problem at work (linksys-n) but I cannot get it to connect at home (either microsoft b/g or netgear g routers). I've tried security/no-security, MAC addressing, different channels, different speeds. The phone says "Connecting..." then "Obtaining IP address..." then "Disconnected". VZW told me to reset the phone but I"m not going to do that. 3G works fine but I'm on a limited data plan to save money and want to use wireless most of the time. Six other devices run fine at home via wireless. Many posts in the forums suggest something was broken with Froyo wifi. Anyone else having this problem? Could you fix it?

Finally junked my Microsoft router and got a Netgear Rangemax b/g/n. Works great.

Wifi works fine at home for me (Netgear g I believe) and at work (unknown) but now I'm on vacation in Europe and I can't get it to connect to ANY free wifi. Thought it was a Europe issue but now it seems it might be a bug of some sort? Anybody have any suggestions?

My dinc connects fine to my home router (netgear n routerWndr 3700) and other routers too that I have connected to with.

After some struggle, I was finally able to get my DInc to connect to my wireless router (Actiontec MI424-WR from Verizon). However, I am unable to attain any kind of internet connection. Anybody else had similar problems and managed to find a fix?

Well, I'll be damned. Found the fix. Would you believe it was just changing the security setting on my router from WEP to WPA? Suddenly, blazing internet access over Wifi. Now I want to know WHY that change made it work. :)

Hope this may help others~

I too had connectivity problems at home. I could connect to open networks elsewhere but not my home network. Like many others, I would get the message "obtaining IP" and then "disconnected". I tried many things to correct it and finally stumbled on my solution.

I set a static IP for the Dinc and it connected immediately and I have had no issue since.

Prior to this I had tried changing security settings from WEP to WPA to open, switched broadcast channels and played with other router settings. I also tried a hard reset and factor reset on the Dinc. Obviosly those things did not work for me, however, they have worked for others in the past and may for for you.

FYI, my info;

I have a D-Link/Vonage router and I am what you would call technically challenged. I clicked on Wifi to start search and it showed me 5 Wifi networks around my neighborhood. I clicked on mine and have not had any problems "yet"

I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus Mimo Router that I've had for a LONG time and it's always been great to me. My wife just got a BRAND NEW Android Fly Version 2.2 and I have an older MID Version 2.1

We were both sitting on the bed watching You Tube videos on our tablets, no problems. Then BOTH tablets lost their wi-fi connections. My tablet gives me the "UNABLE TO START WI-FI" message. My wife's says "UNABLE TO LOCATE NETWORK". I have 3 other wireless devices (2 lap tops and a Kindle) that connect to the Router just fine. Still, I get on the phone to Belkin, I do EVERYTHING, except restarting the modem. The reason for ne not doing that is it's showing the router as Connected and the othe wireless devices can see the router no problem and I don't want to risk losing my entire Internet connection again. How do I get these Androids to "see" the Belkin again?

I am on WiFi, G, the entire time I am at home. Great connection and easy on the battery.
