WiFi stuck "turning on"

Hi:
Did you solve the problem, it happened to my moto x 2014. I cann't turn wifi on even I flash the stock firmware.

I have found a medium term way of fixing this.

Basically remove the battery will solve it but - most of the devices that have been impacted (myself included) have batteries that cannot be removed so...

drain that sucker until it gives up the will to even turn on and then drain it some more...

best way i found was just to turn on the video camera and leave it recording... turning on the flash speeds this up a bit.

when it dies, keep trying to turn it on into the android boot menu. (hold on and the volume down key) then if it opens i went to the barcodes menu item and let the screen stay on until it dies...this process can take a good few hours... sometimes it will seem completely dead but will then start an hour later...

so basically try get as much juice out of the battery as possible...

then plug it back into the charger and wifi should be back to normal...

i did this once and then my phone worked for around a month with no problem and then bam out of nowhere again wifi broken... so i redid it and again its working for and has been for at least 3 weeks now....

still have no idea what is causing it to break but at least i have a solution – sort of...

hey buddy .. I read out all the things regarding the problem"wifi turning on"
i have same problem with my moto e.
i did factory reset even. but its not worked . i have still the problem .. after reading ur post regarding change the paranoid rom something like that.. i am very much interested to do this thing.. plz tell me the whole procedure of that.. i want to solve the problem

Same problem here with unrooted Nexus 4 running 5.1.1. Factory reset and battery removal did not help.

Has there ever been a fix? Seems a lot of folks having this problem.

Yup, having the same issue here after an OTA update to 5.1.1 to my Nexus 7 2012, factory resetting, cache clearing, flashing and custom ROMS haven't solved the issue. Any more tips?

If not, then screw google for making such an unstable update.

"screw google for making such an unstable update"

Don't think it has to do with the update, lots of folks having the same problem with different versions.

I have my Nexus 4 fixed, at least for the moment, by removing and replacing the battery. The battery is supposed to be non-removable, but it can be removed, just follow the instructions at How To Replace The Nexus 4 Battery (It Can Be Done) [Android]

I have the exact problem as your.
For few last few weeks my moto e first gen was hanging up. Restarting was the only solution. Now my device does not have sim networks. As suggested on different communities i have restored(back & reset) twice but while setting up the phone, it keeps on "Turning wi-fi on". I have applied recovery backup, wipe and reset all data, wipe cache partition but can not resolve the "Turning wi-fi on" issue. also there is no sim network in the phone. i have inserted the sim already. Can you please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

My mother had a similar issue with connecting via WiFi on her N7 2012. She is on the latest 4.3 update.

This was fixed by going into the time settings and changing the "use network time" option. Sure enough it worked. Only thing I could think of is it was trying to poll for the time and/date as it was connecting and causing a problem. Sounds odd but it worked

First of all, this topic is long dead, but still couldnt stop myself from registering, quoting to your post...

all in appreciation of BIG THANKS for saving me from my phone's rooting>deleting>installing all apps> and have pressure situation of whether all this will work or not

by just getting back to date from 10-12-2015 to 07-12-2015, in my case to be precise... VOILAA!!! everything back to normal ~~~ and here i am posting on this forum, my first post as appreciation to both the creators of this thread/topic and the valuable sharer of solution #BigThanks

p.s. had been searching throughout the net for the solution and found some interesting details... would love to share for others (if it can prove helpful)
... factory formating/ soft or hard resetting wont work, so as the phone rebooting will also be noteffective
... setting back clock (manuallly) worked like a charm for me (my mobile lenovo Vibe X, carrier Vodafone)
... this problem arose, in my case, when i updated certain apps 5or6 OTA on Google Play Store (mainly Google inbuilt ones) ~~~ for others sufferers as i came to read through their posts >>> when they updated their handsets (for any updates... irrespective of any app) their wifi settings got disturbed causing the wifi to lock while initialising, not allowing the user to switch On or OFF, just displaying the scree n WIFI turning ON/Scanning/Starting/Searching/etc.
... a common solution suggested by many (which even i was going to try ~ if above hadn't work) was
>>>
solve it by deleting /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. It will reset all your saved networks. have your phone rooted and delete the file through a root explorer or you can remove it via ADB (adb shell rm -r /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. I'm not sure).

You may backup it before, then open with a text reader to see your saved passwords.<<<

on many forums, this was the common solution accepted as the only chance to get rid of the problem.

Hope this, post helps you all,
regards

p.s. after one day the same problem rose again, making it difficult this time. Even after changing date-month-year, no effect was found on locked wifi button.
Was searching for rooting software, etc for one&half day.
Tried changing date again to see if works & BINGO... everything smooth since then. Seems this surely works.

Dt. 19-12-2015
p.s. since 14/12 no problem whatsoever, but today evening again it surfaced. Will try the same solution, & check whether it helps ?

+1
I had followed this solution ("setting back clock") and the problem had been SOLVED. After hours of searching through many forums and sites, everywhere tends to say the same thing that software-based solutions like factory reset or getting into safe mode do not solve the issue, the only thing you need to do is changing the motherboard.

Aebbeebo, could you please update me the solution you tried on 19-12-2015. Did it still works for you? or after that it happens even again or not?

Another question is did you just change the date or you did DISABLE the auto update date/time from the internet option too?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT (10 minutes after posting the original): After I adjust the date back to today's, the wifi freeeeeeeezes again. I tried the same solution again after again, unfortunately it doesn't help :(
Maybe it's time to go to the shop.

For the ones who may look for the solution, in my opinion, you should try the 'setting back the clock'. It may help you solve the solution, just be sure to keep in mind that the problem might come back again any time, always got plan B.

Thanks.

Yes! This worked! I registered just to tell you thank you lol. Strange thing to cause this issue.

i've repaired this problem in my zefy 4. the problem fixed after i uninstall my google keyboard.

sorry for my bad english

I was charging my Nexus 7 and unplugged it. Started booting and it got stuck on the Nexus "X". Held down the power button and rebooted again, only now my WiFi is completely gone, even the symbol isn't there, nor the outline of the symbol when it's in off mode.

I go into settings to toggle it on and the button is greyed out, I am not able to toggle it on and off. When I click on WiFi it just says "turning WiFi on" like it's stuck or something. I've tried going into the advanced settings to play around with WiFi optimization and the like but to no avail. I'm really trying to avoid doing a factory reset. Any help?

Well This Happened To My Phone So I Shut It Down For The Whole Night And I Wake Up And It's Normal I Tried Before That To Do:
Power Off
Reboot
Fast Reboot
Restart UI
Force Stop Android System
Force Stop System UI
Force Stop Settings
But The Only One That Worked Is Shutting It Down So That's It But Be Sure That Your CPU Is Alright And If Downloaded And Installed Any Image Image Booting Apps like Linux Deploy Or Bochs,e,t,c..
Clear The Data Of These Apps

You Can Shut It Down,Clear The Data Of Image Booting Apps Like Linux Deploy And Bochs or After You Shut It Down For A While Try To Turn On And Off The Wi-Fi Using The Airplane Mode Then It Will Be Normal :)
