How about PDANET? My sister has an HTC Android device, and it worked fine for her. I have a Droid, and also want to try it, but not if it doesn't work.

I don't get what the OP is asking? Do they want to connect to a wifi source with the Android and then connect to a non-wifi capable computer via USB and utilize the Androids wifi with that computer?

Seems easier to just get a wifi USB adapter.

PDANet is one of the best. Its not free but they know what they are doing. I have purchased several licenses from them over the years for WinMo devices, iPhone and will probably get on for the Droid now too.
June Fabrics is the name of the developer.

I believe there is even a trial mode when you first download it so you can check it out before committing.

I believe it's free if you don't need access to https. But you can't beat the free wireless tether and other benefits of rooting and installing a custom rom.

You said it brother. Unfortunately, with the number of not-so-technically-inclined users moving from feature phone to smartphone, there will be a lot of users that are not confident or technically capable enough to make it through the rooting process. I've chosen to stay stock myself for app development purposed. But there is always that voice in the back of my head begging for a custom ROM with all the goodies :D
