Alright, Here's yet another 'Initial thoughts' thread. Picked up my Xoom yesterday and played with it for some time. Was able to tether it to my DX very easily.
This is my first ever tablet after owning Android phones for since Droid came out. Xoom is very well built and the screen is very nice looking. The system is very responsive. I did not see any lag what so ever. The apps that have been optimized for tablets do look very nice. CNN has a very cool app for tablets. I like the positining of on/off switch which is tucked in back.
Initially I was like WHAT!! no buttons for menu/back/settings?? But there are soft buttons that appear and disappear as needed. Take a few minutes to get used to but they are not bad at all.
I set the screen to auto brightness and have been pleased with battery life. After using Xoom for sometime, now my Droid X feels like a tiny device.
Wishlist :
1. User account: This is a personal device so it belongs to one person. Once you get in, the email, facebook, contacts & everything belongs to that person only. I wish there was a way to 'switch user' and create a second profile for another family member.
2. I know that weight of Xoom is comparable with other tablets but it just feel too heavy. You cannot hold it for a long time. You will need to rest it on your lap or somewhere. I wish it was lighter than this.
3. I wish Motorola used a USB style charger for this device. Most of us have plenty of those lying around. Here they introduced a new charger so if you need a second charger for work, you will have to buy it. Also, if you are travelling you are stuck with yet another charger!
That's it for now. Will update this as I play more with Xoom.
For now, Xoom Xoom Xoom ........................
