Is it actually possible to hack wifi passwords with an app? does anyone know? or are they all just scams?

Just wondeering because my friend showed me one that was fake like its supposed to trick you into thinking they did hack it. but i want to know if its actuslly possible ive searched and theres a bunch of apks but when you download them you have to do a survey to get a password to be able to install it....
