This is not so much a phone question per se as a network question at work.

Our network at work is open to all, but only registered MAC addresses will be allowed to connect. So anyone with a personal laptop, phone, etc., cannot connect wirelessly. We all have network jacks in the wall we can plug into with our personal devices. When you plug into the wall, you have to enter a user ID and password, which all employees have. You need the username and password whether you are hard wired or tethered.

Now, because the cinderblock walls give me such a poor 3g signal, the juice is zapped from my phone by the end of the day. I've adjusted to it (blackberry would last 2 days) and don't begrudge it anymore, but I would like to save my battery as best I can.

So long story short here is what I attempted. I have my own personal router hardwired into the wall behind my desk. I can connect to that with my Dinc, but I still can access anything as the phone does not give me the pop up for my username and passwork to access the network at work. I figured I had a good work around figured out.

Is there a way anyone know that I could access this user login from my phone? I know this is a long shot without any knowledge of our network, but if I could get it to work, I could save about 30% battery everyday. ( my rough guess base on what I get at home with wifi). As an added bonus, It could probably save me the data usuage and I'd be able to switch to the $15 month plan down the road :)
