Do you have a laptop that is connected to the internet via wireless at home? If so, you put in the same info in your phone WiFi as you do your laptop to get on the wireless.

That's about as specific as I can get without knowing what you have at home for the wireless wifi internet, or what phone you are using. If you don't have wireless internet installed at home, just turn off the WiFi on your phone and don't bother with it.

Slightly confused as well. Lollipop is version 5 of android. It's not first gen.

You posted in the Moto E forum, which starts at version 4 kit kat. Sounds like you aren't sure what phone you actually have?

Will repeat an earlier question, do you have wireless internet where you are trying to set up wifi? Yes or No?

" No." The closet hot spot is approx 2 miles from here. I am not within vicinity of any of that.
I thought you could turn it on and receive the connection. Well!!!!

WiFi hotspots won't travel 2 miles. Not even half a mile. The WiFi feature, in this case, is useless to you regardless of what model phone you have. Wouldn't make any difference whether it was Android, iPhone, or whatever. Take your finger to the top of the screen, swipe down, and you should see some buttons, one of them being wifi. Tap it, and that should turn the WiFi feature off and save you some battery life.
