So just an FYI on the thunderbolt on be aka upper peninsula of Michigan. On the way up I experienced a reboot using original radios w/ update. I updated to cdma 7 / LTE 6, but haven't been in a coverage area long enough to test.
Using the extended bAttery with all radios (Bluetooth, WiFi, cell) on and would last from about 6 or 7 am till 10pm. This includes 4 hrs or more of signal searchig, intermittent 1x or 3g and gps usage. I also used the gps and mapdryod when dislocated in the woods and flashlight. Oh don't forget lots of game play due to long hours of chilly temps and power outages or just bored off my rear.

As far as I am concerned the phone out performed a razor, I910, and a host of other phones I have had in this area over the years.

One of these days I'll pick up a Wilson mobile amp.

My question is any good offline gps apps? I need navigation , ability to add waypoints, or navigation to coordinates. Basically a full fledged offline equivalent to a regular gps.

Good post, thanks. You can give this app a try: Backcountry Navigator Pro.

However I don't recommend using the Thunderbolt in place of a real GPS unit for several reasons. First, it's not durable. A fall or water splash may kill it. Also, the back light must be set to 100% when using in direct sunlight. This drains the battery. Lastly, when the battery is dead you will be left without a phone to call for help if you get severely lost or injured.

Just a few things to consider. I use my Thunderbolt for light geocaching and walking trails. But for longer hikes, canoeing or higher Terrain geocaching I use a Garmin Colorado 400T. Highly remand a hand held Garmin for outdoor use.

Chrisy,
No I agree a cell phone is not meant to be a gps. However the battery in my regular tomtom is bad. We got stuck on some unnamed roads, being able to mark a spot and find my way back would be nice. An emergency or secondary backup never hurts. I'll check out the garmin thanks
