Will a Note 4 with 4.4 work well with Samsung Gear S2?

I have been looking at getting a watch, and I really wanted the S2. The problem I found while reading reviews was that it was slow to get notifications, as well as it having Bluetooth connection issues. Especially if the watch dies, you have to factory reset it just to pair it back up. That's nuts. I noticed it was with non Samsung phones, or phones with marshmallow. I have a note 4 with 4.4 (I downgraded cause it was slow/laggy with 5). I was hopeful it wasn't as much the watch, as it was the combination of software and brands. Does anybody have any advice?

It should work. I think the lowest API for smartwatches is 4.3.
