Will Best Buy get this early again?

Just went to the local Best Buy stores and couldn't find any Google displays that I have seen pictures of on phone sites. Ask the Best Buy Mobil guy and he looked up and found nothing other that tell me they are getting a truck at 2pm but no clue if he gets Nexus 5. Then he ask me what carrier I was using and I told him I wanted a unlocked phone. He then told me Best Buy doesn't sell unlocked phones. No clue if he is right or wrong but I just left.

Pretty much. They want you on contract. They make a ton from carriers kickbacks.

He is wrong, you can look online at Bestbuy and they will show you off contract prices, to be honest the store associates at Bestbuy are not the most clued up people, i asked one last night when the LG G Pad will be in store, he had no idea what i was talking about, had never heard of it, didnt even know LG was making a tablet.....

I also see not reason why they wouldnt sell the Nexus 5... they sell the Nexus 7 so why not?

I don't believe they sell any unlocked phones in stores.

The difference between the N7 and N5 is that BB makes money from carriers when they make you sign a contract. Tablets aren't the same and even the phones off contract are WAY hiked up in price because they don't want to sell you phones without a contract.

The press release says that Best Buy will carry this phone, but when I went there, everyone was clueless. Any help from the peanut gallery?

I work for Best Buy Mobile.
We do not sell unlocked phones in stores, we order them and ship them directly to customers.
We will carry the phone, for Sprint only and on-contract at $149.99, for sale beginning on 11/8.

Probably even more than what T-Mo does because T-Mo gets monthly payments from you when you buy from them so they don't need as much built in profit as BB does. This would actually be a first also since they don't sell phones that aren't tied to carriers. They have prepaid but it's not exactly the same thing as a completely unlocked/unbranded phone. I just don't see what BB would gain from selling this unfortunately. Although I'd love to stop there otwh and pick one up with my BB CC. I just doubt it'll happen.

The GSM Nexus S wasn't tied to a carrier. Even though each one was only compatible with one major carrier's high-speed data service, it was an unlocked phone that was sold in Best Buy stores. I realize that there are some differences here (the Nexus S was much higher in price), but Best Buy has sold unlocked Nexus phones in-store in the past.

There's no way they'll sell it as just a sprint phone. If Best Buy was smart, they'd put it on the same stand as the N7

Yes, Best Buy will just sell it as a Sprint phone. Mainly because AT&T doesn't officially sell it and they don't carry T Mobile in stores. THAT is why Best Buy didn't carry the Nexus 4. I used to work for that **** storm of a company.

if theyre going to sell it for sprint in best buy stores cant i just buy one at the off contract price and walk to an at&t store to activate it? there are no carrier specific models being released so they have the same radios. as long as the off contract price they have is $349 it should work

There really is no such thing as a "Sprint" version of the Nexus 5... The same phone from the play store is the exact same phone Sprint is going to sell on contract... The phone is basically a universal phone with all the bands and hardware built in to work on Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile. I just dove in and ordered the 32 gig off the play store hoping it would work on Sprint and it was confirmed by Sprint that the play store phone will be active on Sprint... The same press release says that Best Buy and Radio Shack will sell the Nexus 5 for $349 and $399 and there is no mention that it is exclusive to Sprint so you could just buy it and use it on any carrier (outside Verizon) My play store version shows that it shipped so I'll just wait until next week to get mine I guess... Even if Best Buy has it later today...

Best Buy will sell the Nexus 5, but only on-contract for Sprint at $149. If you want to buy the phone full price from Best Buy, it's going to be MUCH more expensive then the Play Store. Only buy the phone from Best Buy if you are a Sprint customer and plan on staying with Sprint, then it's a fine deal, especially if you have $50 phone freedom from earlier in the year.

Wow they always mark up no contract price a bit, usually $100 more, but @ $799.99 that's $350 more than Sprint is charging for buyout

They match price. Just find the cheapest place to buy it outright and show them on your phone and they match.
The only bad thing is they insist phone is connected to a network before you leave. Either you switch your simple or let them activate but they won't sell it wifi only. I find it odd because they do sell tablets wifi only.

Now that we know that you weren't correct (gotta get a jab in lol) I have to ask... will you price match google play store or only amazon for this? it's an unlocked phone at 449 but we all know it's going for $100 less elsewhere.

The link posted above shows Sprint- the only reason Best Buy seems to be getting this is phone is due to their relationship with Sprint- so while technically the phone may be unlocked- they are not seeing it like that. Sprint is retailing it at $449.

It will likely include a Sprint SIM as well.

Not saying it would be impossible, but it is not as straightforward as it may seem.

I am so bummed that Verizon won't get the Nexus 5 that I seriously considered going over to Sprint. But Verizon coverage is soooo much better in my area and I wonder about charges for out of network calls, etc.

There are no charges for roaming on most plans, but I will tell you that data not voice will likely be the issue in the majority of places. If you are not in an active Sprint LTE area don't even think about changing. If your area does have LTE- than it is may be worth considering but LTE coverage in most places still have plenty of holes and the transition between 34 and 4g is a little rough. Sprint is 2-4 years away in most places from having a killer network.

LOL Sprint is always 2-4 years away from having a killer network

Ha, yeah I guess. But you cannot deny their spectrum holdings nor the amount of money they have committed to doing this. It is only a matter of time at this point.

How was I not correct? Everything I said was right.
I never said it wouldn't be available off-contract... that was the other guy. (I simply said on contract, it would be $149. Which is correct)

As for price matching, it's at a manger's discretion really. I personally would match it.
However, it is store policy that all phones must be activated on a line. So we'd need to put it on a Sprint line, even if purchased without 2yr extension.
