Will clearing the data in gmail delete the account's emails??

When I go to settings in my phone and pick gmail from the list of apps, it gives me the option to "clear data". I want to completely remove any trace of the hotmail account i have setup to run when i open this gmail app. However, i need to keep the emails that are in this hotmail account.

I just wanted to make sure before i clear the data that it just removes the account from the app and not the actual emails within the account itself.

claring data from email app doesn't have any effect on the actual account you are using.
Clearing data removes any settings you've changed (example-you turned syncing off and by clearing app data will set that setting back to on asuming that the default setting was "syncing->on"

There will be no loss of emails in your actual online e-mail account in case you choose the option "Clear Data" in an e-mail app. on your endroid moble phone. What happens is that only your settings, passwords, and etc. regarding the e-mail app. will be deleted without touching your actual online e-mail account. This option of "Clear Data" is particularly helpful in case of yahoo e-mail account where no option to log out is provided.
