Will getting my charging port repaired compromise the waterproof seals?

The Charging port on my Galaxy S9 is dead. I'm planning on taking it to a Samsung Authorized repair center (uBreakiFix) while still under my 1 year warranty, but I worry that getting the charging port repaired will compromise the waterproof seals when they remove the back cover, etc, and I'd imagine it's pretty hard to get it waterproof again.

Also, to be honest, I don't even know if damage is covered under the one year Samsung warranty. Can someone let me know? My other option is to have it replaced under my AT&T phone insurance for a $250 deductible.

They are a Samsung authorized repair shop ,so I dont see why they wouldn't seal it back up, but I would ask them that question anyways. Does wireless charging still work?

You should also be aware - there's no such ting as a waterproof phone - it's water resistant. There's a huge difference - it's resistant to water up to 4.5 feet. That's a pressure of about 0.5psi per foot, or 2.25psi. So if you hit it with a direct stream from a kitchen faucet, with anywhere from 15psi to 40psi, water can get into the phone.

Thank you both. It's actually been dead since September and I've been using my fast wireless charging stand since then. Does anybody know if it will be covered in my one year warranty?

Charging port and anything else that fails as a defect is covered. Damage to the port would not be covered.

this is what I love about wireless charging. I've had to many electronics charging port go bad and that's it cant use it anymore but not our QI stuff

I've done plenty of warranty repairs at uBreakiFix they are great and are fully authorized from Samsung (maybe not all locations so ask just to be safe)

when replacing screen and battery on my S8 due to screen burn in and bad battery they told me it would be water resistant again no problem and it was. tested it and everything was fine so you should be good to go

Everything is correct in what you are saying but there is a catch. Water damage isn't covered even if the phone is water resistant. In the event you experience water damage later on it makes it hard to tell from a consumer standpoint if the repair leaves your phone water resistant. In the case of a port repair I'm pretty confident it shouldn't be an issue. I find the best course of action with any device is treat it as if it isn't water resistant and minimize your exposure to liquids.

Exactly, I dont take me phone in pools or for showers. I use my phone dry at all times.

When at a restaurant and someone spills their drink and it gets on your phone should be the only time these phones really get wet. Scenarios like that.

Exactly....I always get a kick out of people that want to take pictures under water, shower with the phone, or think it's great to hose it off after working at a construction site.
