The low brightness is quite striking at least when you view it alongside another device.

What are the chances google may unlock higher brightness in a future update?

It's always possible they can, but so far no issues in sunlight on my pixel 4xl

I agree. Mine is bright enough for me. I will say that the sound isn't as good as my S9 was with the Dolby Atmos enabled. It's only minor and most people wouldn't notice it unless they were coming from something with a better audio dac in it. I just notice that I have to turn up the volume a tad bit more than I had in the past.

It is acceptable for sure but I find it an unsatisying screen to look at. Just imaging if your TV was that dull you would not be impressed.

Personally it looks fine, sure it would be great if it looked like the Note 10 screen under direct sunlight. May be next time but it's not going to change in software for the Pixel 4. It is going to be what's currently.

I keep the brightness set to 100% at all times. It's the only way I can use the phone without getting aggravated about the dull display. I love the Pixel line but I will never make excuses for it.

Not terrible in sun light for me, but more brightness would definitely increase the user experience. Would be nice to see Google roll and update.

I'm happy as is so far can't complain much especially since this phone has been nothing less than amazing for me so far.

If your TV was outside in direct sunlight, I'd bet it's probably going to be just as disappointing. I have a Pixel 3, and while it's also not as bright as Samsung's panels can get to, in normal conditions it hurts my eyes at 100% brightness.

I've heard a lot of people calling for Google to use Samsung's better display panels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that Samsung doesn't make those panels available to other OEMs. Why would you give some of your best features to a competitor? It's the same reason I chuckle when users from other OEM's complain that some Pixel exclusive features aren't available on their devices. If Google gave the other OEMs their best features, what would be the reason to buy a Pixel over a Samsung or LG? I don't know any company that gives must have features to their competition.

Uhmm the pixel 4 xl can go much higher on nits but Google has decreese the brightness on purpose so the display panels can technically get much brighter if Google wants. For the most part for me it's not an issue but on a super sunny day and when outside it does make it a little harder to see. And just an fyi Samsung does build the pixel 4 xl panels.
