Will Google Now function if I turn off location history?

Hey there,

I've been tempted to turn off location history on my phone for various reasons (privacy, battery, etc.), but it says that it will affect Google Now. I'm not willing to lose Google Now, so I'm wondering:

What effect on Google Now will I see if I turn off Location History?

I mentioned this in another thread, but will mention it here as well--when I turn off Location History, I don't notice much difference in Google Now information. I still get location-specific cards (like weather and nearby activities). I think one of the things that might suffer is the ability for Google Now to figure out your commute, but I can't tell, since my schedule can be pretty erratic.

Yeah - I have location turned off too and haven't lost that many cards, apart from commuting cards. Mind you I live 7 minutes away from my work and I drive so I don't know how much commuting information I need in that time
